Re: 75 mpg on new pcx normal?

I guess I'm going to have to accept mpg in the 70's then. Part of the reason I bought the pcx to replace the 40 mph vino was the time saved on my commute by being able to use the hwy. Hwy use cuts my travel time in half, saving about 20 minutes a day compared to the street route. It's nice to save f...

Re: 75 mpg on new pcx normal?

Not full throttle, but probably not far off. Wide open would get me going fast enough for a ticket, 65 plus. The bike has some reserve left at 60 mph, but not a lot. I guess maybe this isn't too far off what I can expect using it the way I do, but its still a lot better than the 30 mpg my car gets d...

Re: 75 mpg on new pcx normal?

Seems low... You'll get less mileage on ethanol fuel than ethanol free fuel. Also, a lot of locales change fuel blend for better emissions in winter and I think that might have a small negative effect. Doh! Forgot about the winter gas, we do have that here. One more thing to bring mpg down. On the ...

Re: 75 mpg on new pcx normal?

Not too big, 5'9" and under 200lbs. I do have a tall windshield, but I don't think its too big a deal as my top speed was exactly the same without it.

I am hoping it just needs some break in, I was really hoping to make at least 90 mpg average on my work commute.

75 mpg on new pcx normal?

Just curious if the 75mpg I got on my first two tanks on my new 2013 is normal or not as I was expecting better. I know that the cold weather ( always under 45 degrees down to 20 ) since I bought it hasn't helped, and my commute of 7 miles each way has about 5 of that at 60 mph on the interstate whi...

Re: Sliders vs Rollers?

I would hope the DrPulley sliders are patented. They are one of the most simple, ingeneous engineering solutions. Lower low range, higher high range, and last almost forever. . I think there is one more thing too, and the reason they are such an odd asymmetrical shape. I think the shape is calculat...

Re: Sliders vs Rollers?

I think part of the reason Honda chose the heavy rollers for the bike is actually noise regulations. Lower average revs = quieter. I think this is the real reason for the airbox snorkel too, just noise reduction. Valient, regarding pulling rpm you have it partly right, but left out the effect of the...

Re: Maximizing your Dr. Pulley sliders

Took off my trunk and got 71 mph at 9550 rpm with a tail wind and only 68 mph into the wind coming home. Still getting poor fuel economy at 88.8 mpgUS with all the top speed runs, Winter weather, and heated gear running. I think that settles it, with a new variator and dr pulley sliders the bike is...

Re: Which mods to get?

My take on it is the contra spring should be just stiff enough to prevent belt slip and all other tuning should be done by playing with different weight sliders or rollers.

Re: Maximizing your Dr. Pulley sliders

That's interesting. Since my variator is new and unworn it sounds like I may not have to mill the face at all. A red line limited top speed of over 70 mph is more than the bike will have power to achieve anyway.

Re: Maximizing your Dr. Pulley sliders

BTW, your new belt may be slowing the bike a bit till it wears in, hopefully without too many more miles needed.

Re: Maximizing your Dr. Pulley sliders

That is interesting and a good reason to get the sliders in at low mileage instead of waiting. BTW, pulling 9050 rpm at 67mph indicates that at at 9600 redline you could perhaps hit a genuine 71mph before the rev limiter kicks in. Most of the time the bike won't have the power to hit 71 mph, so you ...

Re: Maximizing your Dr. Pulley sliders

" So filing on the brand new parts might be too much at this point. "

So you didn't file the face, and are reusing the same sliders, but it's faster than before?

I'm unclear why you didn't have this same performance the first time around when you added the sliders.

Re: PCX 2015 - 2014 side by side

I am strongly considering trolling the dealers for a deal on a NOS '13. I do miss my red '11 125 and the affair with the Fly has gone stale. The PCX is one of only three bikes I regret selling to satisfy my Multiple Bike Disorder. Just can't see the extra $$ for a 2015. Yeah, I'm a tightwad. ...

Re: Modifying body panels to make valve access easier, Hack

That's very good info that the battery box is the main sticking point. It seems like an easy improvement to just not bolt it back in. I would think gravity would hold it in place adequately.

Modifying body panels to make valve access easier, Hacks?

After reviewing several videos and threads on valve adjustment, its apparent the bodywork on our pcx's is just a huge pain to remove, and is the number 1 reason valve adjustment gets put off. I was wondering if anyone's come up with any " hacks " to make panel removal quicker or easier? Pe...

Re: Just got my new 2013, need a bigger windscreen

I've been able to ride to work with the new windshield 3 times now in temps as low as 20 and I really have nothing bad to say about its performance. I've ridden near semi's and it does get buffeted, but not really any worse than any of the motorcycles I've owned in similar situations. Overall, it's ...

Re: Just got my new 2013, need a bigger windscreen

Ah thank you! I was aware of that mod, " milling the face " but didn't realize it was the same mod you were referring to. My bike being new shouldn't have any ridges or other wear to deal with, it will likely have under 200 miles on it when it comes apart this spring. I am leaning towards ...
