Took off my trunk and got 71 mph at 9550 rpm with a tail wind and only 68 mph into the wind coming home. My take on it is the contra spring should be just stiff enough to prevent belt slip and all other tuning should be done by playing with different weight sliders or rollers.

That's interesting. Since my variator is new and unworn it sounds like I may not have to mill the face at all. A red line limited top speed of over 70 mph is more than the bike will have power to achieve anyway.

BTW, your new belt may be slowing the bike a bit till it wears in, hopefully without too many more miles needed.

BTW, pulling 9050 rpm at 67mph indicates that at at 9600 redline you could perhaps hit a genuine 71mph before the rev limiter kicks in. I'm unclear why you didn't have this same performance the first time around when you added the sliders.

That's very good info that the battery box is the main sticking point. It seems like an easy improvement to just not bolt it back in. I would think gravity would hold it in place adequately.
