Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand

Fritz, FYI the motorbike restriction signs have been removed from the Bhumibol Bridges and there is another ferry at 13.682595 100.586784 Hey, thanks! I put a landmark in my HERE maps for this place. Maybe on the next trip it will be the ferry of my choice. Actually I prefer the ferry to a ride on ...

Re: Five day ride through parts of central-ish Thailand.

Hey, congratulations! Nice route you picked, Khao Yai National Park is very impressive, and the way to Phitsanulok passing Petchabun is lovely. I like this bridge, I must have been crossing it about 6 times already. Thanks for letting us get the confirmation: The PCX is good for a longer trip. Oh ye...

Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand - Final C

Today I took my Red Rat in for a check-up. The doctor told me, she is healthy as can be. The total amount for the service at 29296 km was:
Oil Change 160 Baht
Gasket 20 Baht
Air Filter 180 Baht
Total sum, almost killing me :-) ---- 360 Baht, at the current exchange rate that's about 10 Euro.

Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand

In sum, do you think going on a trip using the main highways for only ~10% of the journey is a good idea? In about 20 years of driving in Thailand (car and motorbike) I found most of the "numbered" roads to be in good condition. These are maintained by the Highway Department, not by local...

Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand

Great trip report. I was glad to watch it live. What made you cut the trip a bit shorter than planned? If you were going to do it again would you take more side roads and take more time? Or did it feel good to get, say, from Nong Khai to Korat, in a single day? I wanted to be back in Phuket for the...

Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand

Here comes the final comment on the tour. The trip was a bit shorter than planned, but anyway... it was enjoyable, everything went smoothly, and the PCXs all performed flawlessly. In total my Red Rat, who covered the complete part of the tour, gulped down 110 liters of gasoline to get over the 4,176...

Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand

Yes, it is done. I arrived safely back home in Phuket, on the whole way there was more or less just one critical situation. A dog crossed the road just in front of me, but the PCX's brakes were good enough... nothing happened except both of us got a shot of adrenalin. Red Rat took the encounter real...

Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand

This is a very short post, just to tell everybody that I arrived back home well after a small marathon ride from Prachuap Khiri Khan to Patong Beach. It might qualify for a province race, in total the trip went through Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Ranong, Phang Nga and finally Phuket. Is there any...

Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand

Hey, I found a way to play tricks on MyTracks. Whenever I take a longer stop, I stop the recording completely and start a new one. So today's track is in three parts, but at least it worked :D It was a ride of about 450 kms, and it took me from Pak Chong all the way around Bangkok down to Prachuap. ...

Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand

Well, today was a day with highs and lows. The biggest fail was MyTracks, which did not record the biggest part of the route. At the first stop (see picture) the software stopped recording. Funnily this was the exact point, when I was notified that Glympse is not working properly, so I restarted tha...

Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand

Tomorrow we will have breakfast (I get some Thai food, my Red Rat will get a healthy tank full of 91 Gasohol) and then we will hit the road going down south. I have to make it to the birthday party of a friend... The glympse will be available about 9 am (GMT+7) from http://siam.de/pcx, as usual.

Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand

I have your route mapped on OsmAnd app on android. very nice. Thanks for the update files. Hey, that looks great! It clearly shows, how crazy I must be about my PCX. I love that scooter, and there are still quite a few clicks ahead of both of us until we will be back home in Phuket. I will annouce ...

Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand

Our last day leading to northeast, from now on the trip will lead back south again. But this day took us to a very special location, which I visited last year already. At that time I took some videos, which I uploaded to youtube, but somehow they got lost. I will have a closer look and update with s...

Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand

We had a good rest this night and are ready to roll. Just finish the great coffee and we are on the road. If you ever come to Nakhon Phanom I highly recommend the 69 Resort. Beautifully designed rooms, just 500 Baht per night. The owner has been studying in Australia for 8 years... The glympse will ...

Re: Experimental report of a trip through Thailand

Another day is going to end. One of the red ones left us after about one hour, because Rudi got to go back to look after his bakery. Manfred and me went on with the route, and we enjoyed the swinging curves of route 12 from Kalasin to Sakon Nakhon. If you have the chance to visit this area, don't mi...
