Re: Selling my bike - what do do about a couple of nasty scr

Hi, thanks for all the replies, the scratches are not minor, but they could be worse. They look black, is that the colour the plastic is under a white surface? Anyway, seems the consensus is to sell as is. Maybe try painting them . It had a service done about 8 months ago and it does low miles so I ...

Selling my bike - what do do about a couple of nasty scratch

Hi, I'm probably going to retire soon and I only use the bike for work. It's just under 2 years old, and fairly low milage (about 4,000 I think). It's got some fairly deep scratches on two panels. I don't think I'm up to replacing them. I'm wondering whether to pay a fortune for the dealer to do it,...

Re: First long journey on my PXC - need advice.

Finally did a longish journey. I did 90 miles and the same back home 2 days later. I enjoyed the ride. It was quite tough on the old backside so if I was doing it again I would probably reorder the seat pad I cancelled. Was let down by my sat nav app on my phone which kept stopping. I learned the go...

Re: Taking your test. Or not.

Yeah, think I'll stick to two wheels. I had a couple of hours on a geared 125 recently. Didn't like it much. Took some getting used to, well, I never really got used to it, I would need a lot more practice. Was glad I tried it anyway. So I'll probably stick with the PCX which means doing the test is...

Re: First long journey on my PXC - need advice.

It's the weather that's putting me off going at the moment. Here's the link. I looked it up elsewhere on the net as well. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351708282710

Re: First long journey on my PXC - need advice.

Ok I found out my parents could collect me if I get a train to Axminster, so that makes a train much more attractive, and the weather forecast is cold and rain for the next 2 weeks, so I booked a train ticket for £129. Thanks for all the advice. Maybe next time I'll bike it.

Re: First long journey on my PXC - need advice.

... and then there is the return journey? - what is it's heavy rain most of the time? Even on a proper motorbike with great brakes and wide tyres (the pcx are tiny) I would consider alternatives to doing very long journeys (4-5hr's+) by bike when alternatives may be on offer. If it's heavy rain on ...

Re: First long journey on my PXC - need advice.

I've done the long distance thing on three different bikes, two of them being 150cc scooters (see my blog linked below). From experience, I'd suggest investing in some sort of seat cushion, or a sheepskin. I've done 300+ miles in 9 hours, with stops every 50 miles or so, and it can be done, but I'd...

Most of my riding is at night but I know the route and it's all lit. My eyesight isn't great so I'd be scared of hitting a pothole or messing up somewhere.

Re: First long journey on my PXC - need advice.

I'm planning on driving from Manchester UK to Chard in Somerset. It's about 250 miles. I don't have a license so I'm not doing motorways. The Sat Nav app on my phone reckons on a 5 hour journey, but it calculates based on 68 mph most of the time. Realistically how long is it likely to take? I've on...

Re: First long journey on my PXC - need advice.

A dodgy back and a stock seat? I would definitely try 50 and 100 mile (round trip) rides first. Will do one on Thursday. I reckon 6-7 hours, you'll be going quite a bit slower than 68 and to be honest it isn't really going to be nice at all. Right. I'll allow 8 hours with breaks and psyche myself u...

you you wrote:Yes work up to it.

I usually break a big journey down into chunks. I generally break it into quarters if I'm by myself or 100 mile stints if it's with the family/dog
You mean per day or just take a break?

Re: First long journey on my PXC - need advice.

If the most you have ever rode is 6 miles, have you ever been at 60 mph?. Try a 50 miles trip around the Peak district to see how you feel. If you live in south Manchester it may be possible in 6 hours but with your experience I would guess nearer 8 hours. Would you be travelling at night? I suspec...

Re: First long journey on my PXC - need advice.

Seems like the general consensus is that it's gonna be tough. I think the idea of a longer test ride is a good one, I'll do one. If it's raining it will make it much harder obviously. If it's really bad I can put it off a day or two. No I've not only ridden 6 miles in total 'you you', lol, I do it t...

Re: pot hole danger?

I know all the potholes on my route to work. I reported the worst ones to the council and they actually filled them in!

Oh, and understanding counter-steering helps avoid things. They never taught it on my CBT but I found out about it off Youtube.

Re: Taking your test. Or not.

Interesting that you can ride one on a car license, but I don't like the way they look. If I was gonna have an extra wheel it would have to be on the back like this Honda. More rock and roll.

Re: Taking your test. Or not.

Your system is different over there. Is a CBT like a learner's permit? Some folks over here ride on a learner's permit forever. Yeah, it's quite complicated, I don't even know all the rules myself. I passed my car test a long time ago, so I can ride a 125 if I do the CBT, which is not a test but is...
