Re: An E-Class Benz Modified My PCX Yesterday

Sorry to see this but I'm glad you only had minimal injuries. You said you were going about 30 when he cut you off - about how much speed if any were you able to scrub off before impact? Most of it, I don't remember if I binned the front end by snatching too much brake or went down because I hit hi...

Re: An E-Class Benz Modified My PCX Yesterday

Injuries...some knocks and scrapes and a sprained ankle that hurts a lot more than it should. Been and had it checked out and it's just inconvenient. My chin actually walloped the inside of the helmet as I came off but it was pretty low-speed and I had decent gear covering my upper body at least. Mo...

An E-Class Benz Modified My PCX Yesterday

All that hard work last weekend (new battery, new forks, new clutch face plate, bled the front brake) laid to waste in an instant. My PCX had a fight with an E-Class Merc...have a guess who won? http://i.imgur.com/sL4P6c4l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Mo1Rxwnl.jpg?2 Not my fault so hopefully it should be ...

Re: Parts required to fix clutch bearing issue

No, I'd run the bike over several weeks putting in around 5 litres and then doing about 80-90 miles before it needed refueling.

I'm not honestly that fussed about the actual figure, just wanted to point out that the bike is using a lot less fuel than it was prior to the fix.

Re: Parts required to fix clutch bearing issue

Another quick update. Since the change, I rode the bike about 10 miles and emptied the tank. I then reset the odometer and brimmed it. I've done almost 40 now and the fuel gauge is yet to change from full o_O

I thought I was getting around 70mpg before...I must be getting quite a bit more now!

Re: Parts required to fix clutch bearing issue

I bought mine at between 12 and 13K miles and it sounded as though it'd been a problem for a while.

Re: Parts required to fix clutch bearing issue

Where are you based Tony? Much cheaper to get the plate with the bearing installed from the USA and have it shipped overseas if you need to. You'll know if your bearing needs replacing. Moving the bike around with the engine turned off sounded like...well a knackered bearing. It makes a sort of 'roa...

Re: Parts required to fix clutch bearing issue

I had an Aprilia SR50 some years ago so had taken apart a CVT before. It's actually pretty simple and I highly recommend you rev the engine up with it on the center stand to see it in action! Tonyx, to be honest I was only really aware of the clutch plate bearing when moving the bike around. It soun...

Re: Parts required to fix clutch bearing issue

So...the run into work this morning (8 miles of riding through fairly chewed up city traffic with the occasional bit of faster dual carriageway). The bike is running a treat! It's significantly quieter both at idle and at speed. The top speed is now a very steady (indicated) 57mph and it reaches Vma...

Re: Replacing the front fork seals

New forks went on today, actually a pretty straightforward swap. Took the bike out for a spin and they feel pretty good. I'm going to clean up and sell the old forks. One is fine but the other pisses fork oil everywhere and was really mucky.

Adjusting the front disc brake

I bled my front brake today but it's biting on the pad pretty hard. While the bike is easy to move around and drives OK, with the wheel in the air it only rotates once when spun hard and then comes to a stop. The brake itself isn't razor sharp and while it stops the bike it's still pretty spongy. An...

Re: Parts required to fix clutch bearing issue

Right, so I spent most of the day swapping this out. It's actually fairly straightforward but while you need a 22mm socket to get the variator off, you ALSO need at 42mm socket to replace the clutch plate (this is the part that most people end up with as replacing the bearing itself is a right arse ...

Test rode a new Vespa GTS 300 yesterday and...

...it was pretty terrible IMO. Good points -- 273cc motor puts out 22bhp which is about twice that of my PCX. Good for a 70mph top speed (speedo was climbing VERY slowly at this point but I ran out of road) that is reached reasonably quickly but in the real world, great for getting away from the lig...

Re: Centre stand trouble.

After receiving instructions on how to disconnect the ECM. (Difficult, numerous panels to be removed etc,) I have decided not to proceed with the repair. I agree the repair may fail and even more damage may result. Have been looking at doing the same thing myself but it looks like a known flaw that...

Re: PCX125 Centre Stand

Hah! Not so fast! I've actually had a change of heart with the little PCX. It's too small for me and breathless above 45mph BUT I'm going to fix it up and actually see how it performs without a ruined clutch plate bearing, a battery that holds charge and decent damping up front: Forks: http://www.ho...

Re: Parts required to fix clutch bearing issue

Think the clutch face is nearly here. I've ordered a variator holding tool so think I should be able to get away using just a breaker bar. I'll hire an impact wrench if necessary though. I've broken too many parts trying to do the job on the cheap in the past! Do I need any particular sockets to get...

Re: Replacing the front fork seals

Picked up a set of used forks from a bike that had done 4000miles for £50. They're going on the bike this weekend as I'm pretty sure there is no fork oil left up front. Everytime I hit a bump the front mudguard clatters around and my teeth rattle!
