Re: 2 mechanics, 2 opinions... what do you guys think?

Hahaha well, she is just one of your very own Americans going home for a brief trip. So I'm sure she knows how to handle your brand of testosterone-filled men. (How well she's doing with our own brand over here.... that's another question!) In more useful thoughts... ;P Any suggestions of a reliable...

Re: 2 mechanics, 2 opinions... what do you guys think?

All those potential extras are what scare me! Most parts need to be ordered ex Japan, and so are expensive and take 3 weeks to arrive :/ A thought: a friend is going to be in the US soon... any suggestions for good, well-priced spares places that I could order the parts from and have delivered to he...

Not 100% sure, but I heard rumours that it was just too expensive for the market (which is largely dominated by the cheap Chinese junk as far as scooters go). They still import the Elite 125, but not the PCX.

Re: 2 mechanics, 2 opinions... what do you guys think?

Thanks for the input, folks! Really appreciate it. I've told Mech2 I want to go ahead with the gasket replacement (though requesting that I only pay him for labour once we've confirmed it works, considering how much I've spent with him on it already!) Selling the bike has been a consideration. Howev...

Re: 2 mechanics, 2 opinions... what do you guys think?

Just wondering if we're missing the elephant in the room. Could the faulty hose have resulted in a blocked radiator or a failed water pump? I think Mech2 did do that then. He had mentioned before that he's flushed the system a few times, run hoses through, somehow checked that the water is flowing,...

Re: 2 mechanics, 2 opinions... what do you guys think?

Has the radiator been checked? Checked for...? :| Mech2 did make some side-comment the last time about "otherwise maybe we must get a new radiator on there". And also another something about "if we find the piston is cracked" when replacing the head. ...which is all why I'm worr...

Re: 2 mechanics, 2 opinions... what do you guys think?

Is this from the exhaust or the radiator / overflow ? If it's from the exhaust (after the exhaust is hot) you probably have a blown head gasket. Another indication would be if the overflow tank has become discolored from oil residue or exhaust in the coolant. Ah no - I think it's just coming from t...

Re: 2 mechanics, 2 opinions... what do you guys think?

This will be a long post so here we go. 1/ 1 way to check if your head gasket's blown. Let the engine rest, cold. Then open the radiator cap. If you see bubbles flowing up, you have a problem, likely with the head gasket. Otherwise, if you know how to take the seat off your scooter, you should look...

Resurrecting this post. (For some reason I didn't get notified of those last replies, and so thought the thread had gone dead. Thank you to the PCX community that offered their input back then!) So. The drama continues! :( :( And has gotten much worse! Some of the questions you guys had asked (eg re...

Re: 2 mechanics, 2 opinions... what do you guys think?

No smoke, no roughness or misfiring. Before fixing the hose joint, I'd once lost engine power while riding on a freeway. But nothing like that now. She rides like a dream besides the temperature light going on! Mech2 had also suggested that the prob might be with the thermostat. Will report back on ...

Re: 2 mechanics, 2 opinions... what do you guys think?

I gather these are general mechanics for scooters and bikes and not a dealer? Yep - general bike mechs. The Honda dealer wanted to charge me 15 hours of labour right off the bat just to take it apart to diagnose the problem, which already came to about 60% of what I paid for the bike! No thanks o_O...

2 mechanics, 2 opinions... what do you guys think?

I have PCX 125 2012 that I bought 2nd hand. About 10 days after I got it, it overheated after a 30km ride. Took it to my regular mech (Mech1), he took it apart and discovered that the water hose joint was cracked (prev owner later told me that they'd discovered that too, but had had it repaired inst...

Re: Overheating and cutting out - from too much oil??

The 2nd mech I went to also said that, but then the first mech (who was the one who'd taken it apart, changed the broken part, but couldn't take on the job of changing the gasket due to time constraints), said that the oil emulsion would only happen on a "severe" head gasket issue. His dia...

Re: Overheating and cutting out - from too much oil??

I don't think it was actually anything to do with oil over-fill in the end. That was one of my thoughts in the beginning, but when i took it to the mech the first time, he checked the oil level and it wasn't high. Think i hadn't been checking it on level ground the first time round! :?

Re: Overheating and cutting out - from too much oil??

Hello PCX-buddies! Update on this....! I was away for about a month, and left the scooter with my mechanic. He discovered that the water hose joint was cracked (prev owner had told me afterwards that they'd had it repaired rather than replaced because they didn't want to wait the 3 weeks it'd take t...

Re: Overheating and cutting out - from too much oil??

I'm curious as to whether you are checking the oil correctly. The proper technique is to unscrew the cap, wipe it off with a clean non-shedding towel or paper towel, then stick it back in without screwing it in at all, then pull it out again and read the level. If this is what you're already doing,...

Re: Overheating and cutting out - from too much oil??

Thank you to both of you for your responses. Just to confirm if I didn't make it clear -- the oil is level is about 1.5-2cm above the usual high level mark . So where the dipstick high mark is at about +-0.5cm, the level is at 2-2.5cm. When I checked it this morn, the oil had actually also come up i...

Overheating and cutting out - from too much oil??

Can overfilled oil cause overheating?
