Re: Scooters A Plenty

No windscreens.

Nearly all the scooters we saw in Italy had tall windscreens.

Re: REquired Service for Warranty

I have never figured out how to use brake lock anyways. Parking brake? Squeeze the brakes hard, and pull the lever. To release, squeeze the brakes again, and push the parking brake button while pulling. Sometimes the brakes remain locked after the parking brake is released, but just squeezing the h...

The shakes

The vibrations of the bike at idle seem much quieter if I’m holding the rear brake. When holding the bike with the front brake only, or not holding the brake at all, engine vibrations shake the bike substantially more than when the rear brake is engaged. Not a big deal, but wondering if anyone else ...

Re: Idle stop worries

For those of us without idlestop (who encounter LOOOONG red lights in our regular rabbit trails), the easy way to kill the engine is to discreetly lower the kickstand briefly. It’s the only way to stop the engine without turning off the lights; which is good to keep in mind when travelling in the ev...

Re: End of the drought

You see the second and third levels of the parking garage on the left. The trees are planted along the street that normally fronts the river. During last year's drought, the bridge standard in the distance was at the water's edge.

A more recent photo of the flooded Mississippi immediately north of the statue (and from higher ground). The trees out in the water are along the same sidewalk where my bike was parked in the previous photo.

Re: End of the drought

Thanks for your kind words WN. Tornadoes are very selective, so most of us were only mildly inconvenienced with the recent storms. Sewers backing up from excessive rainfall is more widespread than wind damage. All in all we are a hearty bunch, and came through smiling, though a little wet. The pictu...

End of the drought

Looks like the drought is pretty much over…

The submerged statue commemorates Lewis & Clark’s landing, but at this point, his triumphal hat waving looks more like a cry for help.

Re: Windscreen - Ermax vs. Givi?

"Spinaker"  It does look ungainly, but it's what works. The windshield is not optically pure, it collects water spots and bugs, and the top edge bobs and weaves around relative to your line of sight, but it is no more distracting than the windshield wipers on your car. You get u...

Re: Windscreen - Ermax vs. Givi?

I'm 5' 10" and have the tall Givi. It was a bit annoying to have to look through the windshield instead of over it, but got used to it quickly. There is no helmet noise or turbulence at any speed. I have noticed no difference in MPG, and don't know if it affects top speed since I don't ride muc...

You make an excellent point.
Further, we got 84,000 miles on the stock tires on our civic.

Re: Can someone reccomend a decent outdoor cover please?

I specifically wanted a cheap looking cover so a thief thinks I can’t afford a decent bike, and would look elsewhere. The bike only has to look good when I’m on it. To keep out of view of thieves and rain, I bought a “weatherproof” tarp at Home Depot, folded it in half, and sewed the ends together. ...

To answer her question: It will cost her a lot less in the long run if she pays cash and leaves the insurance guys out of it. I would agree to that if I knew I would get a satisfactory settlement from her.
