Re: New mesh jacket and pants

Thanks! The steel I use is excellent knife steel but poor forging steel (so no Forged In Fire episodes for me!). I order the steel in sheets and draw/cut/shape the knives all by hand.

Re: New mesh jacket and pants

LOL, no, I had several empty barrels that I was giving away to friends for rain barrels (it was illegal to collect rain water on your own property here in CO until the law was changed in mid-2016). I got the desire to deliver one on the PCX just for fun. One Harley rider did a double-take. I'm...

Re: New mesh jacket and pants

It was warm enough yesterday to try out the mesh combo. It worked very well, but I'd say the tailoring/cut does not fit my out-of-shape body quite as comfortably as the FirstGear stuff. All of the jacket pads stayed in place, but one knee pad wandered a bit after a few off-and-on errand stops. Airfl...

Re: How long does it take for the engine oil to warm up?

Someone who put an oil temp gauge on their single cylinder motorcycle engine reported this; "From a cold start idle it takes 2 minutes to reach an oil temperature of 90 degrees." "It amazes me how long it takes the engine to get to 150. If I start at about 90 degrees it takes at leas...

Re: New mesh jacket and pants

Most mesh and hi viz combo I could find was this Firstgear. Have owned two of them (when no longer eye-watering bright I buy again), both year end's at $99. Yep - love the reflective strips all over....and the long tail. Replaced all the pads with the primo orange stuff. https://i.postimg.cc/c1BNdR...

Re: New mesh jacket and pants

Hope you stay warm or cool in all that. LOL, me too! Looks like the summer riding is going to be hot at a stop or low speeds.....only mesh is small chest patch. Which is the last place I'd want winter Colorado air trying to get to my body's central core area... (liner or no) Leave off the bla...

New mesh jacket and pants

I previously posted about my cold-weather FirstGear Rush Tex jacket and HT Overpants . Now I've received my new mesh jacket and pants for summer riding. Because of the high cost of gear, I decided to give Wicked Stock's reasonably-priced gear a try. The jacket is their hi-viz Waterproof Textile Jack...

Re: Using 0-20w oil PCX 150 in the tropics

I feel that modern multi-grade synthetics lubricate better than mono-grade conventional oils. Very generally speaking, internal combustion engines like stronger film strengths to keep the metal bits from touching each other. If I lived in your climate 0w-20 wouldn't be my first choice, but I underst...

Re: Attention Big Bird, your scooter is ready!

I wonder what it's story is? 1,237 miles divided by 15 years is only 82.5 miles per year! The town where the dealer is located is home to Stetson University - I'm guessing maybe it was owned by a Professor who lived about a quarter mile from campus but didn't like to walk - LOL With the bike still ...

Re: Helmet colors?

No, I cut them out of a 2" wide roll of reflective tape. The Shad box has two flat areas flanking the release latch. These are at a good angle for reflecting back at drivers, so I put tape on them. :-) They're pretty small (1"x1-1/2") but they're two more bright spots on my behind. I ...

Re: Helmet colors?

I did something similar to my hi-viz helmet by placing a strip of red reflective tape on the back of it. I also added red reflective tape triangles to the back of my top box. :geek:

Re: How much to replace a front fender roughly?

Also, I discovered that I can easily just rest my thumb on the horn button while my index and middle fingers cover the rear brake lever. This will enable me to immediately hit the horn if I find myself in a similar situation in the future. When I saw the guy's reverse lights go on I thought to myse...

Re: How much to replace a front fender roughly?

many US dealers will not do any labor less than 1/2 Hour. Even if it takes only 5 mn, it rounds up to .5 hour on the repair order. Yup! My local Honda dealer did the "safety inspection" of my PCX after my accident. Their labor rates are $120/hr and they charged $60 for the inspection, whi...

Re: Winter riding tips?

I don't know what it is about sub freezing temps here in Chicago, but it seems like the cold weather has brought out some absolutely awful drivers. I remember years ago reading about Saab's analysis of heated seats and driving safety. Their view was that cold drivers were tense and less responsive,...

Re: Front Basket

Looking at my 2015, it seems like the easiest/quickest solution would be to adapt a front rack for a suspension mountain bike. Maybe something like the Thule Tour or the Old Man Mountain Sherpa ? You might be able to make use of the side reflector brackets for the upper mounting of the rack. You'd a...

Re: Not going out in the rain anymore on my PCX.

... I went out in the rain today and nearly pooed my pants. The crash has really turned me into a buddle of nerves in the rain. And I would take my old PCX out in anything a part from snow. I want to get winter tyres but a mate of mine said he paid 200 for his on his CBR and said it was a waste of ...

Re: Anyone in the Market for a 2019 Super Cub?

My 1980 C70 Passport Super Cub was configured similar to the one in this picture. It had a two-up seat, front and rear racks, and a rear top box, but no front basket. It also had an excellent full windscreen. I modified the top box to accept bicycle panniers as saddle bags, and when I used them my f...
