Found the numbers last night and I guess the total, registered count for the scoot parade was 660 bikes. That's a lot of scoots! Although I did see a few of the reverse trikes in there. Not sure what those are classified as really.

From what I've seen, you wouldn't feel anymore upright than on any other scooter.

As far as the helmet goes, well, in my opinion you should be wearing one anyway. Just have to find one that you really like. Slap some stickers/decals on it if you have to.
