I've always just added 1 US quart. Makes life so easy. I don't even drain the strainer now that I'm at 11,000 miles.
I DO tilt the scooter on the center stand to get more oil out, and I do let it drain for about 30 minutes as I check other things on the scooter.

Re: Oil type...
As has been stated a 5w40, 10w40 will work. but Honda specs a 10w30 for fuel economy.
And has been stated any quality oil will work, either motorcycle oil or auto oil. We don't have a shared sump. No clutch in oil.
Pennzoil Ultra 10w30 (car oil) is my current fill.

Re: Engine Breaking
I do not engine brake. I am from the side that believes braking is done by replaceable brake pads and rotors. That said, I do not live in a hilly area. Illinois is mostly flat. I was taught to engine brake at the MSF course. It made no sense to me. I've never had a automatic car, so to not burn out...

Re: Coolant change
*UPDATE* I Changed my 2011 Honda PCX 125cc scooter coolant and final drive oil on Saturday 6/30/2014 I don't have a service manual yet, its on order now. But I looked over the engine block and did not find a burp plug. I did use Honda Type II coolant (Honda Blue). I did a flush first with the Blue C...

Re: Coolant change
Honda green is their traditional life coolant. Honda blue, also known as Type II is their extended life coolant. In the cars, they spec a change interval of 7 years or more. I'll be adding Honda Blue into my PCX. Whatever coolant you go with, make sure it is silicate free, or it will destroy the coo...

Re: 10680 Miles OEM tires replaced
200 miles on the City Grips. Wow what a tire. I'm grinding the center stand now. I didn't have this confidence at all with the IRC's. Now I just hope the city grips last longer.

So in other words... You used a flashlight (torch) to see if the combined brake fluid reservoir (container) was at the correct level?

I have no idea what you are talking about. Forum politics are like office politics. Annoying. I hate it when someone asks a question and they, being new, get pounced upon for having not searched before posting. Kindly ask them to search, and better yet, help them with links, and your own knowledge o...

Re: Coolant change
I do not have my scooter back yet from its tire change. The plug I am talking about is on the engine block. It removes air from the block itself, air pocket= hot spot = bad. The "header tank" is also called a fluid overflow tank. It simply gives coolant a place to go once it expands due to...

Re: Coolant change
Check to see if the engine block has a coolant "burb" plug (gets all the air out from the top end. Also, not just any coolant will do. Honda coolant green or blue (I'd go blue and forget about it for 5+ years). Honda engines and most Asian engines do not like silicate coolant. It will dest...

10680 Miles OEM tires replaced
I had some time off today, so I finally got around to replacing my tires. The shop still has the scooter, as its extremely busy, may take a few days to get it back. Thought I'd give a report about the OEM IRC tires that come with the 125cc pcx: They work fine. --end of report-- My riding and braking...

Re: 5000 Mile Service
I thought so too for a year. The. I read on here to adjust the brake cable for the rear drum. Set it to where the wheel spins freely, but the tiniest movement of the level will engage the rear brake. After that, parking brake will function properly. Can't even move with the parking brake applied. I ...

Re: rear tyre
Yup. I'm at 10,000 miles before I stored the PCX for winter. Still have the original rear tire, I believe I can get another 2000 miles. And during this time, watching prices on the city grips. I'll have to change out both front and rear. I do not use the rear brake unless I need more braking than th...

Re: Motor Oil Question
Yup, Dry clutch, only lubing the engine. SO you could use any quality API spec oil you wanted. Why they made a MB oil rating I don't know, Maybe its motorcycle oil for dry clutches? but then it would be car oil? who knows I've tried almost every 10w-30 I could get my hands on. I changed the oil ever...

Re: Service Intervals Short?
What some of us have done, is follow the service interval for everything but engine oil change and valves. Decrease the oil change interval by at least half. And increase the valve check by almost triple. Check the valves on schedule for the first 2 times. Then, they usually won't move for a very lo...

Re: Tire Comparison?
Flipping the rotation is bad for a motorcycle tire, They are layered in a specific way due to the rotational forces. Motorcycle.com has an article about this. It could make a tire come apart! As these are scooter tires, they are pretty simple in design. So I don't think they will fall apart. But rev...

Re: Best way to place trickle charger leads?
Or... Just pull the battery and clip on the clamps from the battery maintainer. Trickle charge is not a good way to. You want one that "floats" a charge.
I have one battery maintainer I move round to 4 batteries. They sit in a line. Each week I move the clamps down the line. Works well.

Re: Stored for Winter 2013
For cool mornings and nights, I use pin locs inserts for my helmet. Even have a dark tint one that I use plus the built in sun shade when I have to ride into the sun on my morning and evening commutes.
