Re: my winter transport

Depends what spec you get how much there is is to break Parts are widely available and not too expensive unless you buy Landrover branded ones, even then they're mostly not too expensive. The LandyZone forum has a wealth of info. If you're reasonably handy with the spanners it's fab, if you're not, ...

Re: Poor gas mileage

Very different in the UK, to maintain a warranty the servicing must be carried out to the published servicing schedule and the work done by a VAT (tax) registered business.

Consumer law is different in the USA, the caveats about warranties and servicing may not apply in the same way?

Re: my winter transport

I can recommend a TD4 Freelander, they're absolutely brilliant in the snow and can do 40mpg.

You may want to put a warning on the how-to that if doing it this way non-US owners should switch off their stop-start...?

Re: Poor gas mileage

The stop start only makes any difference in congested city traffic, even then it's very minimal.

Re: Humped?

Maybe it's leg length or where you place your feet that makes the difference rather than height?
I have my toes where the join is between the flat section and the angled forward section like this.
Riding like this it's just not possible for me to be comfortable.

Re: Poor gas mileage

80 US mpg is about right, it's almost exactly what I have averaged over a few thousand miles.
Manufacturers consumption claims are never guaranteed.
To get the maximum 130 (imperial) mpg you need to use part throttle, ride slow on flat ground in still air and weigh next to nothing.

I reckon it softens up after a while.
Mine has never been a problem, I've always been able to get comfy enough.

Heated handlebars are for puffs, all you need are a decent pair of lobster claws..... :chuckles:
Anyway Maddie, ain't you the guy who said he doesn't wear gloves at all summer or winter cos his hands are all gnarly from woodworking...?

Re: Super scoot!

I don't like any of the new crop of super scooters, they just don't appeal to me at all. For my needs £4000 would get me enough scooter. Here's my pricepoint predictions for when they eventually hit UK showroom floors: The BMWs are in direct competition with the Yamaha T-Max and Suzuki Burgerking 65...

Re: my winter transport

Up here in Aberdeenshire you know it's winter because the ditches start to fill up with BMWs and Mercs.
A RWD with the correct tyres may be fun in the hands of the skilled, but with normal tyres and the average motorist, completely useless.
Vive la traction avant mes amis!
