PCX battery when engine is switched off.

Hi All,

I will leaving the country for a month in December. Will my pcx battery be ok when I get back? Or do you think I will need someone to ride the scooter now and again to keep it running?

How long do these batteries last normally? Don't want to come back to a dead scooter and have to use cables to charge it up.

Just disconnect the negative battery cable ....the bettery will be fine when you get back.

If it's a '15 model with no alarm fitted, is it not true that with no key in the ignition then there will be no charge drawn? (unless the ECU or something is in circuit somehow but I doubt that), so no difference leaving the battery connected?

It is a 2015 model and I have no alarms or anything. Do you know where I can find info about the drain?

I don't want to unplug the battery unless I have to.

So long as the scooter has been used regularly and the battery is well charged there's no need for you to do anything.
When I had a PCX it would be left outside in freezing conditions for weeks at a time during winter and it never once failed to start after a long lie-up.

why? you pop off the cover for the batt, and use a Phillips screwdriver to disconnect the cable. Takes 3 min....

seeing as we don't know how strong your batt is, and if the cells are good, disconnecting the batt is the easiest and surest way to make sure you have a good batt when you come back...and by the way if a batt goes flat, it does long term damage to the capability to store electrical charge even if you recharge it.Disconnect it or get a batt maintainer on it.

I will try unplugging the battery just in case.

Doesn't matter if I unplug the positive or negative right? Or do I have to do both? I don't know much about these things so don't wanna mess around too much.

No, pull the negative.....

Ok cool... The negative is hard to get to though. Positive is just there as soon as you open the cover...

Shame.. I might just take the whole battery out.. Hope that doesn't mess up the bike...

Won't mess up a thing to take it out. You should be able to see and get to the neg screw....without removing it. Don't be afraid to work on your bike, it's common sense, at least this situation is.....

It was left standing for over three months once and started first press of the button.

Think about buying a nice rocker switch and mounting it under the seat. That way you can switch it off when you're away. Once someone showed me how easy my Honda CB550F was to steal (i.e. unplug the plastic ignition switch from the ignition and turn it with a screwdriver) I put two hidden switches on the bike to disable it.
