Fault code help

Post by buddy1976 »

Can anyone with a bit of knowledge or a service manual please help me translate these fault codes?
Scoot is running ok apart from intermitent solid warning light and speedometer behaving erratically or sometimes not working so i'm thinking speedo sensor/ rear loom may be at fault but looking at the light sequences i think there may be a few faults flashing up?

Your video shows: codes 11,12,52. Only that year's PCX 125 shop manual can tell you what
these codes refer to.

Code 11 simply does not apply to a Forza, by example. Code 12 refers to the Injector on most Hondas. Then code 52 refers to the PCX 150's CKP, but doesn't exist on the Forza.

Anybody with the proper shop manual ? Otherwise, since the scooter works fine but shows 3
improbable codes, swap the ECU and see what that gives...

buddy,

A friend of mine has just provided me with a list of 'typical' Honda fail-codes, that says code 11=speed sensor, code 12=fuel injector. At first sight, these two are not related...but in fact they are! (the ECU adjusts injector opening duration to speed, among other parameters, says friend). This could point out to a defective speed sensor 'screwing' both the speedo and the injector functions...thus showing codes 11 (one long blink, one short) and 12 (one long, two shorts).

Code 52 is not on that dated list.

Worth checking the multi-way plug is seated properly (behind the dash area).

Thanks for the suggestions guys,

As my ecu was 2nd hand i have reset it using the paperclip method, have just done over 10 miles and and put into diagnostics mode and their is no faults to report as yet. Hopefully it will remain faultless, i think i'll get myself a service manual sorted sometime soon now i know how to find the fault codes.

Cheers

By 'reset the ECU', I understand you mean 'erasing the memory codes'?
I don't see how this could correct an erratic speedo...I'm I missing something, here!?

Sorry, Yes i mean erasing the memory codes. The speedo issue is not my main concern i will be fixing that on my next day off, my main concern was after i 1st tested and found 3 different fault codes, since posting this i have erased the memory codes because i since realized they may of been inherited with the ecu i had purchased second hand earlier last year. I will now monitor for fault codes using the trusty paperclip after each commute for a few weeks.

Cheers again

I thought the ECU just stored past error codes but did not flag them again unless they were still present. Still, progress is being made.

Iceman,

Stored failure codes will only show up when shorting 2 specific wires from the red DLC (data link
connector). They are kept in memory so that intermittent problems can be identified, as such
problems may not show 'now' and be otherwise very hard to track.

On my Forza, I had disconnected just about everything related to FI , turned the switch on, and
saw the whole litany of codes blinking out, one after the other. After I reconnected everything (with the switch OFF) and started it, the blinking codes stopped altogether. Then, with the jumper-plug installed, they all came back as 'stored'. I erased them following the procedure above.

(It is VERY important NEVER to connect/disconnect things with the main switch ON, says Soichiro).
