How to charge my mobile phone using PCX battery.

Post by doletotodole »

I saw a plug in the glove box.
I wonder what specs it is? there is no USB dock, I guess I have to use a connector?

Do you gents know what connector to use? So far I know all mobile phones can be charged with USB.

Thanks.

Since most of those pictured above seem to be made in China, you should have no problem finding one. That one is what I use as well, though I am about to switch over to a Battery Tender extension adapter. It plugs into the external leads that come with the Battery Tender. These external leads stay attached to the battery so that connecting the battery charger will be much easier.
So, you have 2 choices for charging your phone. They both work equally well.

I've got the "Battery Tender Plus". . .works well. . .never used the quick disconnect. . .just the clamps.

Is this the kind of USB charger port you are talking about that plugs into the battery charger quick disconnect extension? See link below.

Great idea!

So you could use the traditional cigarette lighter type charger that comes with the PCX or opt for a USB charger under the seat. . .Wow. Were you going to try to secure it somehow?

Yep, that link was to the item I got. I have RAM Mounts, so I can just run my usb cable through the hole in the seat hinge. This also allows those who have multiple devices to run one through the accessory port and the other through the Battery Tender connections.

My advice, get a name brand one. I had a cheap one I bought from Walgreens and not only did it stop charging (worked fine for months), it started to melt. Spend the money for a name brand one.

I have a 2021 PCX 150 and am trying to figure out what charging cable fits the outlet in my storage box! It is a micro usb port but not sure what cable works!

There is no special cable. Any cable that has a USB that fits into the port on one end and the other end fits in your phone will work.

The PCX outlet is not a standard USB port! It is a “micro” port and much smaller than a standard USB port!

So what? There are many micro USB cables out there that fit a phone.

Start looking on Amazon, not knowing what kind of phone you have, I imagine this one would work

The 2021 is outfitted with a USB-C interface.

This link would give you options for iPhone

Good idea. I charge mine at home before I go out on a bike.

I have my bike apart one more time, and this time I am adding a USB handlebar cable with a SAE end so that it plugs into the SAE end I have connected to my battery for recharging the battery during the winter. This new USB port has an on/off push button switch on it and two ports. I will connect my Dashcam to it, but if I need to also connect my phone to it, I can. When not in use it has a cap to go over the port. I ran the cable down the handlebar trunk where all of the other wires are. Then I have the center panel off right now, where the gas cap is and ran the cable on the right side, under the side panel, and out through a hole already in the side of the battery compartment, into the under seat compartment, where it connects to the SAE cable attached to the battery. It is hidden, just like all of the other wiring I have added. At some point in the not too distant future I will sell my beautiful bike, but until then I will try to make it better for whomever gets it. It is a 2013 model, and everyone is moving on to newer bikes, so I am sure that I won't get much for it, though it only had 6,300 miles on it. Still, I love working on it and making it better.

This is a SAE connector, in case you don't know the proper name:

How do you route the cable from the glove-box to the mount? What modifications did you make? There is a lip around the door to make a good seal

thanks,

I'm wondering how to achieve that too. I'm sure the weak spring fixture on the door, won't stay shut, if I squeeze a cable through.

I'm considering drilling a hole in the interior side of the glove box and taking a cable up to the handlebars. I've just fitted wind deflectors on the sides and I hated drilling into the body work. That's why I'm hesitating before I drill any more holes.

One thing to keep in mind - according to the manual, you’ll only get 1A from the 12V outlet, and - most importantly - you’re not supposed to use it at all if you’re using your high beams.
