600 mi first service?

Post by strkngfang »

I've been pretty close to an actual 600 mi on all of my new scoots when I take them in for service. I have 582 mi now on my PCX 125 and I am scheduled for Monday morning at my Honda dealer. My question is, how safe is it to go over the 600 mi mark and if not a big deal, how far over without causing any problems? I have an opportunity for a nearly 100 mi ride on Sunday, which would put me just over 700 and I'm a little leery of going that far over????

It's not a problem. 600 miles is just a guide. 700 miles will be fine

Thanks. I didn't figure it would be a problem, unless you were at 1,000mi or more. I'll be slightly over 700. Not too shabby for 2 weeks ownership!!

I wouldn't wait much longer than that though, my oil was diiiiirty at my first service. Lots of little teeny metal dust and some tiny bits of gasket.

I took it in yesterday at 685 miles. Everything is looking good & she feels a little more peppy. Maybe she's just happy that all of the loose particles are gone ;)

It is good to hear that you are happy with the service performed. Mine goes in tomorrow at 647 miles.

I didn't clean my oil strainer when I did first service. I see a lot of people on here did. Am I good?

You should be alright, there won't be enough big stuff in it to worry about, and if there was, you've got bigger issues that you would have noticed by now. I'd make sure to do it next time though. :)

Picked my PCX up today after it was serviced. The cost was $159.00 and included: valve adjustment, oil change, brake inspection & adjustment, fluid level checks, wiring & light inspection. The labor charge was $150.00 for two hours. Not cheap but not too bad.

That's about what our service costs are here as well. Mine was 78.00 for everything you mentioned +spark plug, no valve adjustment needed until 2,500 miles. They were getting too many complaints with no adjustments needed, but still had to charge for taking off & putting back body panels. It would have cost me another 75.00 to do it, but I waited until next time.

Not bad, I had mine done at the dealer and I think I paid $179 out the door.

I can live with around 200.00 per service, give or take? It's when it turns into several hundred that presents an issue. My Silverwing was due for its 16,000 mi service when I traded for my PCX. It was going to run me between 700-800.00- Ouch!! My trusted dealer assured me I would never be over 300 for any service & if they skip some of the BS inspections, it would be even less.

The dealer around here has a bit of a monopoly. I asked Service when I picked up the scoot about the first service at 600 miles. The oil change would be $40. The valve check.... well he had to go out back and look up the job, and came back with $250. Clearly they do not have much experience with the PCX. I'm not exactly sure how I will go when the time comes. I sorta like to have the man do the first service, but at nearly 300 clams, I may have to rethink the perceived benefits.
On my scoot, getting there is WAY more than half the fun!

I had mine dealer serviced according to the schedule up until 10,000 miles.
Given how much the dealer charges for labour and how much I paid, I don't believe they ever checked the valves in all that time.
I just checked them myself at 15,000 miles and they were spot on.
More than half of that 15,000 miles was at 50mph or above.
