What is the Brake Lock?
It is in front of my left knee when i am on the seat. I went thru the owners manual again but couldn't find it.

As for the parking brake not working, that is due to improper assembly by the dealer. Almost all PCX's have this issue.
to FIX:
Set scooter on center stand.
Rotate clockwise the rear drum brake adjustment (look in manual for location and operation)
spin the rear tire by hand with the engine off. and rotate the adjustment. find where the brake begins to apply, and then back off several turns.
pull in the rear brake several times, rotate, and test making sure the tire still rotates freely with no brakes applied.
Now, pull hard on the rear brake, hold it, and pull the parking brake out all the way. Release rear brake. Should work perfectly now. If not, you have the adjustment too loose. The key is keeping the rear wheel free to spin, but having the rear brakes apply with slight brake modulation. the parking brake seems to be sensitive in its engagement setting.
This absolutely is the fix if yours does not work Yak, just make sure you have free wheeling after you mess with that hand nut on the end of your brake cable! Then you will need to do it again after a few hundred miles. About the only use you will get from this feature is rear brake adjustment piece of mind. If your parking brake works... your drum brake is properly adjusted.
However from the looks of a recent thief attempt video that parking brake might be enough to keep some ne'er-do-well from pushing off your new PCX. I might get into the habit of setting it.

Re: What is the Brake Lock?
Basically, it's a parking brake.
The idea is, you apply the brake, pull out the brake lock knob, and your brake is set.
I didn't think mine was working at first, and then when I figured out HOW it worked, or thought I had, I then thought my rear brake was not adjusted tight enough.
It didn't seem to me that the brake was engaging, since I could still roll the bike when the brake lock was pulled out.
What I figured out in the end was this...you have to put the brakes on HARD, and while continuing to squeeze the brakes, pull the lock knob out. This will set the brake. You can't pussyfoot it or baby it. I was incorrectly under the impression that you could just barely apply the brakes, pull out the knob, and you would have set the parking brake. Nope, you have to apply the brakes with some authority, THEN set the brake lock knob.
Now that you can do it, and get it to work, here is why I hate the dang thing:
Inevitably, you are going to set the brake but not have it set with much force. You'll be in a hurry, whatever, but you'll set the brake pretty softly and go about your business. You will then return to the scooter, forget the brake is set, and ride off. Since you didn't set the brake hard enough in the first place, the scooter will still roll and drive. But the brake is still slightly on. You'll ride 5 miles then realize with horror that your parking brake has been on the whole time and you've probably fried your rear brake.
Ask me how I know this.
My advice is to either use the brake lock every time, so that you get in the habit of disengaging it before you ride again, or never use the bloody thing so you don't overlook it and ride around for eternity with it engaged.

Re: What is the Brake Lock?
One thing to remember. After an adjustment always turn on the key and squeeze the lever to see if the brake light comes on. When you tighten the brake adjustment the lever may not squeeze far enough to turn on the brake light so you may also have to adjust the switch.

BTW Yak, you have to reverse the set brake procedure to release the parking brake not just push the little tab on the button.

IIRC, anyone can disengage the parking brake, so I wouldn't rely on it.homie wrote: However from the looks of a recent thief attempt video that parking brake might be enough to keep some ne'er-do-well from pushing off your new PCX. I might get into the habit of setting it.
I prefer my 13mm thick Protector chain to keep the tires from spinning.

Re: What is the Brake Lock?
Good Lord... you do go big on your chain, and people might say mine weighed too much. Whats sad is the Brit chain is great but I could pick that lock because its the simplest tumbler kind from the looks of the key, probably even make a bump key LOL Barrel locks are much better.Valiant wrote:homie wrote:I prefer my 13mm thick Protector chain to keep the tires from spinning.
