performance air filter in the box

Post by mikelx5 »

has anybody added a cone type filter right onto the snorkle hose inside the box? im looking at getting a little power from it or would it be enough to just remove the mini snorkle of the outside portion of the box. with that being said i live in the northwest and im not trying to hydrolock (almost did on the elite 80)

pcxdemon has a cone filter in his stock airbox.
my cone filter is in a peanut butter jar
tb is like a inch and a halfish(150), both pcxdemon and I are using the K&N R-1100 filter.

I believe the stock TB is 26mm. Pcxdemon knows.

I don't know if I like it, but I am impressed with your ingenuity. Good job!

Eliminating the intake runner is a major mod and will shift the power curve away from the mid range and reduce fuel economy. I would be interested to see what happens with the fuel mixture. Pod filters look cool but the stock filter is huge and free flowing anyway.

I've been running the pod filter straight off the TB for a few months now, there is no difference in fuel economy.

Not so sure that is a such a good design. Why have four restrictor plates surely you want maximum airflow?

Looks like someone has looked at supertrapp exhausts, thought it looks cool, and knocked one up for the intake

the restrictor plates are so you can lessen the air making easier for jetting but with all four in its almost wide open, which is where i would have it. i live in washington state where it rains all the time so it also keeps the filter away from elements.

I see BMC have a filter for the eSP model PCX150. It seems to be red in colour and surface area of the filter looks at least double the stock filter area.

I've used BMC air filters in the past and they are top notch... just like K&N.
