This afternoon I nearly got hit from behind at a red light. I usually check my mirrors at intersections anyways just to see what's coming up behind me. It was kind of a weird "r" shaped intersection. You either go straight or branch off to the right. Those going right have a light also.
In this case some chick driving a BMW SUV was not on the stick and as I was slowing down to stop she wasn't. The BMW grill appeared very large in my mirrors and I started to hand signal to stop and actually had to roll through the light to avoid getting hit. I think she must have felt really bad about it because she stayed way behind me after that. . ..
Moral to the story is "Maintain situation awareness".

Very good advice.. She may have thought the right turn was a yield and obviously did not see the signal. In this country you have to be ever so vigilant mainly because scooters are not mainstream as in other countries. That's a big reason why I try to make myself visible as much as possible by using strobes and other lighting techniques. Very important to be seen.

Yup, always be alert. Last week I was going to work and there was an older Buick Regal in the right lane, temp tags and going slower that the main traffic flow. My sixth sense kicked in and I held back as we approached a junction. When he braked the car slewed into my lane, then swerved back over to the other lane, almost rolling. I looked at his wheels and one back one was at about a 20 degree angle from straight! Before I could let him know he took off again, crabbing badly (I would have been changing my underwear!), and sure enough it did it again when he tried to stop. If I had been alongside him either time he would have probably killed me. This time I managed to tell him to stop and check his wheel.

Re: Use Those Mirrors!
There are some cars on the road in Georgia that should not be, but since there is only an emissions check requirement, with older cars being exempted, it seems like just about no one checks their lights or other important parts on their vehicle.
I have seen cars with no bumper, cars with plastic over their broken out back windows, cars with so many breaks in the windshield from heads hitting it that the driver, who still was not wearing a seatbelt, could not see directly out of the windshield. I have also seen cars on the freeway going above the speed limit, and for some unknown reason they had 4 of those miniature spare tires On! Not only would that be illegal in most states, but it has to be really dangerous!

Yup - after I told him, he pulled off into a parking lot. Chap next to me in a truck looked at me and we both shook our heads in total disbelief!easyrider wrote:..... and yet he had to be told ???? Amazing !

I seem to be doing more and more "head shaking" at things I see on the road these days. I'm usually happiest when there's nobody within a kilometer of me.Limey wrote:we both shook our heads in total disbelief!

Hot damn. . .those little wheels on all the wheels? Oh laudy. . .things just ain't what they seem. It's just a constant sorrow. . .. And a broken windshield and no seat belt too? Surely something can be done! There are some cars on the road in Georgia that should not be, but since there is only an emissions check requirement, with older cars being exempted, it seems like just about no one checks their lights or other important parts on their vehicle.
