Pretty real. It will never do that speed on a flat road/no wind, unless it's been seriously modded.

The variator just allows for a higher final drive ratio, the stock one is artificially limited. You can even modify the stock one to get higher top speeds, but I guess that won't be enough to get to 75MPH :P

so you're telling me that all the guy replaced was his variator? What is that second gauge for? I cant really read it. Pretty cool nonetheless. I wish there was a 360 shot of his pcx.. I'll check out more of his stuff on youtube.

I'm pretty sure a different variator would be enough to get it to 75MPH on the centerstand. The other gage is a tachometer :)

oh... stupid me.. A tach on a CVT?? WHY??

Might have to check this out if I can find a cheap-ish source to the USA. Seems like it'll give you much better performance than the Jcoasta

The theoretical problem with the JCosta was the limiter on the US PCX. Some say it's a top speed-based limiter, some say tach, others say both...

It might make a difference, it might not.

From how the bike responds to speed when downhill, I think the US PCX has a speed-based limiter, which is why a few members on the other forum upgraded the ECU to bypass the limiter. I'd love to be proven wrong though, it would mean that increasing the speed of the PCX would be much easier than we've been led to believe.
Currently ride: 2011 Honda PCX 125 - Upgraded windshield and seat, keeping this one mostly stock
Previously rides: 2005 V-Strom DL650, 1974 Vespa Ciao, 2011 Honda PCX 170 (tons of mods - takegawa 170cc big bore kit, gears, etc), 1996 Honda Nighthawk 250, 1987 Honda Spree, 2000 KTM 125SX, 2003 Honda Silverwing, 2007 Genuine Buddy 125, 1998 Honda PC800, 2008 Buddy 125 (white), 2008 Buddy 125 (red), 2001 Honda Reflex, 1987 Honda Elite, 1988 Honda Spree, 2007 Yamaha Vino, 2007 Honda Metro, 2x 125cc pure-chinesium dirt bikes

Can I chip in here please? I love Modification thread debates

The Honda PCX when released was a worldwide wide model with a few cosmetic and legal variations (Parking brake(US), kickstart(Asia), semaphor indicators(us), Stop/start(uk  ) etc.)

The one thing that is the same on all models is the restriction system.

This comes in 2 parts:
1. A rev limiter - electronically set to around 9500 (this is to stop the engine blowing itself apart and keeping Hondas reputation for reliability intact)
2. A VS(Vehicle Speed) sensor is located at the back wheel this measure the rpm of the back wheel and gives you your MPH (basically your final gear) it is also used to restrict the top Speed of the PCX to 62.5mph.

So Unless you can bypass the limiters (I have been told this is possible but how to do it :( ) it is virtually impossible to get your PCX up to and above 70MPH(actual GPS confirmed not speedo which can be 10% out legally) - unless you mess about with gearing, variators, belt widths and tyre sizes (all of these will affect the final gear ratio) - Hint a bigger tyre profile will have a large affect on top speed (but also handling for better or worse)
it tastes like...Eagle!

and a big point is that the speedo is NOT accurate on mine. it is about 10% fast. therefore, i ignore anybody claiming a faster speed than roughly 60MPH or 100KPH without confirming by GPS!

Can someone in Scotland nip up to Cairngorm Summit where the wind has reached up to 165mph please. This will give you a combined top speed of 227.5mph which should be the fastest so far - be aware of riders with jocasta variators overtaking you though ;)

As previously revealed some time ago, to get a PCX to go 75mph just set off down a very big hill with the engine switched off.

2013 PCX150 in the USA. My speedo is verified by gps and seems to be dead on. I set up a check of the odometer which seemed pretty close after 5 miles. I could have had a 20 mile test with the mile markers on the highway but forgot to look at it again more toward the end of the trip. My top speed is electronically limited at 68 mph/ 110 kph. Don't know if it is a speed limit, or an rpm limit until I install my tach. The limiting is felt as a slight surge like a 1-2Hz sine wave from 68 to 67 and back up again. Most rpm limiters I have seen are more abrupt, like a 10Hz sawtooth. I could use another 3 mph to make sure I don't get gapped in a line of traffic. I will have to look at the variator to see if it is letting the belt all the way out. The PCX is perfectly smooth and clean at these speeds. Honda did their homework when designing the aerodynamics of the gorgeous bodywork.

But you said it can't freewheel over 9mph

Where did I say that?
Have you been at the magic mushrooms again?
Very telling that you would resurrect a long dead thread purely in the hope of starting an argument with me.
How sad.

I resurrected the thread. Are you sad at me? What are you talking about? I searched for an appropriate existing topic and made a post rather than starting another new thread. Having too many threads about the same topic dilutes the information base to the point where no future users can find anything so I prefer to keep topics together. Active moderators on good forums such as Ecomodders often merge similar threads to keep things together.

Yep, it was you who resurrected the thread and I have made a mistake.
It would appear that qed has misunderstood what I have previously posted or is once more attempting to make mischief.

Sendler -- I think gn2 was responding to qed, not you. Gn2 and qed were just bickering again, I'd ignore them. You did the right thing by bringing this thread back, no harm done.

The PCX 125 has an electronic limiter as well, so that is unsurprising. The limiter is associated with speed, not RPM, on the 125. The 125cc has a bit of unused room on the variator. You could probably grind down the spacer to pull the faces closer together, allowing more of a ratio and a higher top speed, assuming you could bypass the speed limiter. The only way I've heard to do that is to replace the ECU. :(

Apologies sendler we were just needling each other for shits and giggles

I'm not totally convinced it is an electronic speed limiter as there was an earlier post where someone had disconnected the speedo feed. The ECU didn't show a fault as you'd expect if it was limited in this way

I just think its limited by its feeble power output
