I was thinking of adding this to an existing topic but really it deserves one of it's own. For those that aren't following the other related threads this is testament not only to the quality and durability of the NCY rollers, but also to the machining of their variator. These rollers were removed after 10k of use, mostly commuting but around 15% at speeds of 45-55mph as well. So to continue, old and new rollers were measured with a digital scale down to 1/10 of a gram, and measured with a digital caliper down to 1/10th of a mm, I considered using thousandths and grains but to keep things simple and conversion free I settled for the understandable for the non technical folks here. 1st the Rollers, no flat spots were evident. heres the old (10k) vs the new. As can be seen very little wear is evident. How much of this is due to the rollers themselves or the Teflon coating in the NCY variator is unknown. The Teflon coating along the roller paths is now worn through, but for how long I cannot surmise.

Draw your own conclusions, but from what I see you ought to be good for 10k using NCY Variator/roller combo. The belt also lasted for 10k. Over that time acceleration remained pretty much the same but the top end dropped off after about 5-6k, seeing what I see here you'd be better off changing the belt about twice as often as your NCY rollers to maintain optimum performance. And even if you choose to wait and replace both at 10k the performance hit is hardly game changing with the possible exception of the top end. A max recorded 72mph when all was new, to 64mph after 10k. So again after seeing the evidence the belt stretching/wear is evidently more of a factor at least with the PCX 150.

Interesting. I maxed ours at 75 mph using GPS after changing to the NCY variator, drive face and 13 gram rollers. Their drive face did make a little difference, and I was advised to install them together.

In any case, I had heard that at 10K miles the belt was not as effective but I didn't realize just how ineffective until your post. If it drops down to 64 mph with the upgraded variator then it would probably drop to the 55 mph range with a stock setup. THAT would be disappointing. I believe that the recommended time to change the belt is at 15k miles (2013 models).

The lesson here is if you want to maintain maximum performance on your PCX, change the belt at 10k miles instead of at 15k miles.

Sounds about right Mel. 72 was my best (speedo) about a week after install with the NCY vario, outer plate, 13g NCY rollers, and a new belt.

I have no idea if it made a difference but i have the tallest Givi windshield on my bike. I can't imagine that our bikes are much more different than that.

In fact, it was my wife's bike that I tested. I just got around to installing the variator on mine after three months of running it with just the upgraded rollers. Her bike now has 13k miles on it. We changed everything at 10k miles, including the clutch bearing.

Mine only has around 5500 miles. I traded my Burgman 400 in on mine because hers was so much fun to ride that i was taking hers to the store and only going out on the Burgman when i wanted to cruise somewhere farther away.

I think my actual speed was probably around 75 too because the 110/80 rear tire was throwing off the speedo to the negative slightly. According to the Tacoma tire calculator its slightly smaller in circumference. I Dont have a smartphone so couldn't do the GPS thingy.

Well, we'll call it 75 mph and all go home.

I wanted to put a Michelin City Grip 100/80-14 on my front when my tire wore out but there weren't any, so I just put the recommended 90/90-14 on. It doesn't even have 20 miles on it yet, but it is making quite a difference. It sticks to the curves and corners great.

I am guessing that price does not include shipping. I bet they are heavy. Pretty, but not cheap.
