JASO MA2 or MB engine oil question

Post by alfizta »

Hello everyone!...

First post here...
Own a 2014 Honda PCX125, only dealer regular maintenance.
Only some days ago found out that the engine has only been filled with JASO MB oil (Honda recommended) on the first service. Ever since it has had JASO MA2 spec oil...
I'm concerned for possible damage to the engine... 17 000 km now... What do you think?
Thank you!

It'll be fine.

We don't get JASO MB oils in our small, import-dependent country. Scooters here do fine, especially my PCX.

Well actually, I changed to car oil 16803 km ago, but before that I used JASO MA on 4 changes, JASO MB on 2 changes. JASO MB oils sourced when it was easier to cross the border to neighbouring land.

At least, MA would reduce fuel economy, right? Anyone noticed differences in this aspect between the 2 oil specs (MA/MB)?

Don't worry.......be happy. Been using Walmart's Best 10w30 full synthetic for a long time with great results and great MPG also.

Details..

These bikes will run on almost any oil IMO.. Run plain Automotive oil (I always run Mobil 1 full synthetic in all my Honda Scooters). No need to run any dual blend oil unless you like to waste $$.

If you use MA oil , fuel comsumption would be less than MB 10w30

Just googled it.

"MA oils are suitable for all applications. JASO MB: Oils for motorcycles with an automatic transmission (scooters). These oils deliver the needed friction performance by added friction modifiers which provide fuel economy benefits."
