School boy error after only 250 miles!

So after driving my new bike carefully with all intentions of keeping it spotless for the first year at least, it's ended up skidding along the floor and messing up most of the panels on the right hand side.

The bike had the idle stop/start function engaged and I passed it to my friend who didn't realise, he grabbed the throttle and the bike has shot across the gravel. My fault for not switching the bloody thing off!! I could only watch helplessly as my bike and the concrete made that horrible grinding and scraping sound!

Anyway, I have bought the panels from thumpertalk.com in America and the service manual from sell.com. I do recall someone here mentioning a specialist tool kit (but I can't see it anywhere) as there are some really awkward parts to deal with. Could someone advise me what tools I need for replacing the panels?

Are you saying that the bike was unattended, no driver on the saddle, with the side stand open and leaning on the ground -- yet it shot off from hibernation when your friend touched the throttle?

If so, that is really alarming and makes me worry. I think better avoid using the function until this thing is cleared and solved.

Seat switch must have failed, surprising as i had to glue mine down as it deactivated too easily!

Do you have the PCX 150 or PCX 125? If you have 150 (and probably new batch of 125 if Honda still sell it in your country), well for
economical reason Honda decide to remove the seat sensor.

@khaosaming That maybe explains it. No the side stand wasn't down/engaged, I was balancing the bike by holding it from the back whilst my friend took it from the front. We were basically moving the bike through a tight gate so there wasn't room for the bike and the rider to go through it at the same time if that makes sense. Again I stupidly should have switched the ignition off but hey I learnt the hard way!

@st3v4nt I have the 125 and I bought it in England. I've heard from others that they have now removed that function?

like i said in the other thread, it seems like a stupid thing to do and we should know better. however, it sounds like something i would do. there needs to be a lot more warning about how to avoid this. just flip the switch to 'idling' when the engine is in engine stop mode and it wont start from the throttle if it too much to reach down and turn it off.

my seat switch doesnt seem to work, btw!

My switch was disabled ages ago. I Have to stop at a set of lights pointing up a hill and if I was sitting back on the seat it wouldn't start by twisting the throttle as the switch must be a bit sensitive. I just stuck a bit of rubber on the seat so the switch is pushed all the time. You just have to remember and turn the ignition off if you get off the bike.

Kinda makes me glad I Don't have one (idle stop). Sorry for "accidental" accident Scott Good luck with the fixings (I've used the same orange tools pictured above to remove tupperware. Bought at Harborfreight in the U.S. 4-5 tools in the pkg., not costly at all).

Here is the link to the Harbor freight site. These are the tools I use. By the way, I have found that if you want to temporarily hide the scratches until it is convenient for you to change out the body parts, fingernail polish or even model paint will hide the scrapes. Hope this helps some.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I bought the tools for £3, including postage from china (ebay) and they have just arrived. I'm surprised at how sturdy they feel! Just waiting for the panels to arrive from America and then I can get on with the repairs!

Hi all,

since reading this and never had an issue I actually got the same this morning but probably figured out why.

I parked my bike up at work, idle stop kicked in, i normally then turn the key off but i just got off to give it a re-tweak at the parking, touched the throttle and the bike came alive. I was very surprised, pushed down on the seat to let idle kick in and it idled, hit the throttle and it woke up again!

So had a look around and noticed my seat wasnt closed properly, i can open it up without using the button, so I think this is what casused the idle to be pressed down. I closed the seat and presto, it wont wake up from idle unless i put weight on the seat.

So this is probably whats causing all these other issues with unexpected starts.
