15-50 Oil

I am about ready to do the first service on my PCX. I have some Mobil 1 15W-50 Fully Synthetic left from my Harley that I would like to use. I know 10W-30 is recommended, but will I be ok using the 15-50?

Oil is cheap. Use the recommended 10/30. I bought a few quarts of HP 4S Honda stuff for like 9 bucks each. That will last me 2 seasons.

You would be better using the correct oil for the pcx. Keep the other stuff for the Harley. It'll probably need a top up between services anyway.

gn2 is rude in a lot of his replies. Maybe you need to get used to his flavor of humor. But I will not offer an apology of any kind. I read that line as him saying I am some sort of dumb ass. All I asked was if using 15-50 oil would be ok to use as I have some on the shelf. I know 10-30 is cheap and I can just get some for the PCX. I guess I throw the 15-50 in the trash.

jlhog, I say just use 10-30. Guessin' best advice to give on any forum is to roll with the punches. No need for "anyone" to get nasty, life is too short. Getting use to everyones personalities is key (did I spell that right? gn2 will correct me if I am wrong Or, just ignore threads ya don't like and move on to one of the other 1,000 + threads.....

You may get away with using a heaver weight oil for one change and notice nothing immediately other then slightly worse fuel economy. But Honda has the engine spec to run on 30 weight oil so we can't rule out possible issues. It would also void your warranty if they discover the heaver weight oil was used in a warranty repair situation. I dont know the exact technical properties of the Mobil 1 15w-50, but I can show you the comparison for AMSOIL's Motorcycle 10-30 (recommended for our PCX) & the available 20w-50 Motorcycle oil. You'll see the Viscosity numbers are very different & could lead to higher stress in our engine.

Throw it in your mower, power washer, ect.

I would never consider that in as fine-tuned machine like a small motor like the PCX to save what, 2 bucks

Use it light a campfire, or in your lawn mower. I have many quarts of specialty oils, but would never use a weight., just because it's sitting around the house.

I think you can put your existing 15w50 to a use in the PCX if you mix it with lighter weight oil.

I would just mix it 50/50 with Wal Mart Supertech 10w30 or even 5w30 full synthetic. Those oils are great but have the stamp of being energy conserving. But with a mix they will make a great blend for the use in the PXC.

I've put 18000 miles on the Metro using half and half mix of wal mart supertech 10w30 and valvoline 20w50 both full synthetic.

Honda recommends 10w30 with MOLY(specifically HP4M). Make sure you get oil with moly in it. My fuel mileage dropped from 93 to 82 because they didn't use the right oil for the last service.
