Re: State of the forum - July 2013! - JULY 2019 UPDATE!
Updated for 2019 here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1321&p=134729#p134729
Original post below:
Every now and then, I like to show off some stats and get some feedback from everyone. First off, some information!
Since this forum was created in October 2011, we've gone from nonexistent to rank 1 for "Honda PCX Forum" on both Google and Yahoo search. Bing is derpy, we're #2 there. For reference, that is a search with relevance rated against approximately 622,000 other crawled, potentially relevant sites. That also means we beat out our primary competitor, clubpcx, in SEO.
We also lead in content:
Number of posts: 18500
Posts per day: 26.97
Number of topics: 1208
Topics per day: 1.76
Number of users: 742
Users per day: 1.08
That's awesome! I would have never imagined this site would have kicked off so well. Even more impressive are our hits statistics. A hit is any given pageview -- you generated a hit when you clicked this topic. We processed just under a million hits last month, and have a steadily rising hit trend:
That means a lot of bandwidth, but due to optimizations and the simplicity of the site, there actually isn't a ridiculous amount of transfer -- about 22GiB last month. Here is a full history of our bandwidth usage, it's rising faster than our hit count:
I moderate very hands-off, but average about a ban a week for spam or other crap. I still have never deleted any posts other than spam, and feel as though my hands-off moderation is working.
All that said -- is everyone content with the way the forum currently is?
Does anyone have any reasonable requests for usability, improvements, strategy, or feedback?
Hope you're all having a good time here, keep on enjoying the forum, we're not going anywhere but up.

Re: State of the forum - July 2013!
I think Maddiedog has found a good recipe for success and a perfect balance. Maddiedog's moderation is almost invisible and the users are great. We are so great. And the scooter is great. Wonder what we shall do should Honda ever drop the PCX from their line of scooters? Still keep on talking about the PCX for auld lang syne?
One suggestion. The bookmark in my browser doesn't show any icon. Would it be possible to have an icon in the favourites list for the site?

State of the forum - July 2013!
Great results. It's definitely the no1 pcx forum now. Looking over at the dark side now and again it's a shadow of this.
I pulled one of the moderators up the other week for putting a smiley face on the end of a post he made about banning someone. When I made the point that is was not amusing to be doing this he did apologise and remove the offending remark though. Still it's no way for a responsible mod to so. It's just why people jumped ship from there in the first place.
Any enough about them.
I use tapatalk mostly but the participated tab doesn't work. Is that the app or is it something that needs set up on the forum. It would be great if this was working.
Being on this forum since the start I've seen it grow from strength to strength. Keep it up.

I certainly am, I think you do an excellent job.maddiedog wrote:All that said -- is everyone content with the way the forum currently is?
Two things, one already mentioned a while ago which is a "Mark All Posts Read" button, the other is a "Donate" button.maddiedog wrote:Does anyone have any reasonable requests for usability, improvements, strategy, or feedback?
It would be nice to be able to bung you a few sheckles via Paypal towards your hosting costs and admin efforts.
Glad to hear the forum enjoys such good health, its certainly been very helpful to me.maddiedog wrote:Hope you're all having a good time here, keep on enjoying the forum, we're not going anywhere but up.

Hey Maddiedog
I am having BIG FUN on and with this site! It is very informative to all my PCX questions, everyone is an adult about things and have a lot of relevant comments and answers to my questions. I must commend you for the time and effort you put into this site. as you have said, you have no agenda and I think many of us are the same. that why things are motoring along so well. thanks for the interesting facts here. I actually did a Goggle search back in June so that is how I found this site.
my one request are more pics of Maddiedog. not you, but the actual Maddie girl. action shots preferred. thanks for all that you do !!! ScooterKim

That should be easy enough for me to do. Any suggestions for an icon?khaosaming wrote:One suggestion. The bookmark in my browser doesn't show any icon. Would it be possible to have an icon in the favourites list for the site?
Are you on Droid or iPhone? This is a documented issue on Droids. I think Tapatalk is out of date, so I'll see if I have time to update it soon.Alibally wrote:I use tapatalk mostly but the participated tab doesn't work. This is now at the top of my to-do list. I can't believe I forgot about this, I should have done it long ago!gn2 wrote:Two things, one already mentioned a while ago which is a "Mark All Posts Read" button
The forum will run regardless of donations. I said in my initial manifesto here that I wouldn't take donations to run the site. Since this has been asked for by more than just you, if you guys REALLY want to buy me a beer or something, you can send me money to me through paypal at zurn@gatech.edu. Thanks for your generosity.gn2 wrote:the other is a "Donate" button.

Talking about icons it might be nice for the forum to have a nice logo or badge or something. I'm rubbish at arty stuff though. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm fairly skilled with image editors if anyone has any ideas. If anyone else wants to take a try at it too, that works as well.

State of the forum - July 2013!
Something to identify the forum from others really. Maybe more like a badge. For example http://pcxworldwide.wordpress.com have an nice one.
A brand symbol if you like. Also it would look great as a sticker on the bike somewhere to advertise the forum to others.

Yes and no.maddiedog wrote:Is that the functionality you're looking for, GN2?
What I'm looking for is a button on the Board index page which will "Mark all forums read", a sort of one level up from the "Mark topics read"
Like this:
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong
Re: State of the forum - July 2013!
The site is brilliant but somehow in the last month or so when viewing on my Android tablet using its default browser (kind of a stripped down chrome I guess). I no longer see the unread threads appearing as blue. All threads are green irrespective of whether I have unread posts in them or not. Still works OK on my work PC. I may have accidentally pressed a site button on the tablet. Any ideas?
I dont use tapatalk on the tablet but occasionaly do on the iPhone. Cant say Im a big iPhone fan but have to use it for work. Will try and get a droid or Windows phone next. I like the idea of doing MS office stuff like PPT and DOC and XLS on a windows phone (im not a games player).

Re: State of the forum - July 2013!
I have to say that I belong to both this forum and to the BurgmanUSA forum and this one is sooo much easier to handle. They just updated the software on the Burgman forum and now it is horrible! Go out and look at it if you want to know what NOT to do. I think that site is owned and operated by some big company though, so it makes adding pictures etc difficult. That is one thing I love about this site. If I want to see how something was done, there are PICTURES!!! :-)
Currently own:
Red 2013 Honda PCX150
Givi tall windshield & tailbox - Lots of extra lights
Custom seat from Thailand - Bad Boy Airhorn
Takegawa Lowering Shocks - Michelin City Grip Tires
Headlight assy upgraded to LEDs w/HS5 main bulbs
NCY variator, drive face, and rollers

I think a few of the issues in this thread could be resolved with a new theme. I'm going to tinker with the theme some tonight, I doubt anyone's on this late anyways. If you are on, sorry if I cause you any downtime!
Edit: The forum should still work, it just might look funny for a minute or give an error. If it errors, log out and log in. This weirdness will only be in place while I mess with the theme, and I'll update again when I'm done.

Re: State of the forum - July 2013!
Alrighty, I've updated the theme to one that's more modernized. It's a bit more bandwidth-heavy, but you guys shouldn't notice a difference from your end other than color and style changes.
If you guys like the tagline "The predominant source of information for the 2011-2013 Honda PCX 125, Honda PCX ESP, and Honda PCX 150," I can keep it, but I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any!
The new theme adds the mark read link GN2 requested, and *might* fix the issue Taz was having. I might look into Tapatalk updates later tonight, or might go ahead to bed, it's late.

I know all of us on this forum appreciate this great place to meet and share ideas and humor.

What about plain and simple 'PCX' in a square. The roundel is already being used by Modern Vespa. Or maybe just a happy dog face? Like in your avatar, but without the leaping body.

I like the changes and updates you made, MaddieDog. the new look is much cleaner and easier to find items and subjects. thanks again and Happy Fourth!
