Best way to place trickle charger leads?

Post by gokidd »

Weather's catching up with us ... not riding very much. (Especially not with this head cold that won't leave.)
How/where are folks installing the trickle charger quick-disconnect lead for the PCX battery?
What is the best way to place it so that it's quick to connect/disconnect without having to pull and replace bodywork?
I appreciate the help!

I guess another way to ask the question is -- does everyone just remove the battery door and leave the seat open when using a trickle charger?
Or is there a better way?
Thanks.

I haven't done mine yet, but it appears that there is enough gaps around
the edge of the access door to have allow room for the lead to be left in place with just the end sticking out into the under seat compartment. That's my plan.

My little Elite 110 has the battery under the nose, so I just let it poke out from one nostril:

The battery tender pigtail on my Forza fits through a small gap under the seat that leads down to the battery. I'd expect you'd be able to do something similar on a PCX150.

On my Ruckus, I installed a 12V outlet on the battery box and I use that (I bought the battery tender adapter for the cig lighter).

I like the nostril application, chucktuna ... very eerie in a sci-fi fashion.
I will check out the gap space on the battery door.
Thanks!

Ctek quick release coupling attaches to the battery and squashes in so you can put the battery cover back on so all you do is open battery door and connect :)

Optimate ring adapter that came with charger.

The door is flexible enough so that there is no strain on anything. I think it will work for me.
On my scoot, getting there is WAY more than half the fun!

Or... Just pull the battery and clip on the clamps from the battery maintainer. Trickle charge is not a good way to. You want one that "floats" a charge.

I have one battery maintainer I move round to 4 batteries. They sit in a line. Each week I move the clamps down the line. Works well.

I just removed the battery cover and connected it to the battery, I leave the battery cover off for the winter and just leave the lead lying in the underseat compartment for the winter. In the spring, Ill just remove the lead for the summer. No riding here in Buffalo NY for 4 months anyway. Or you could just put a little notch in the battery cover for the wire and leave the lead hooked up permenantly.

I've seen it run through the fuel flap. That would work and not pinch the cable under the seat. It's easy enough to squeeze the cable through if you remove the battery and the fuel flap cover panel.

Yep, ya'll convinced me -- leads out through the battery door.
I intend to ride most any pretty weekend this winter, so I don't want to remove the battery altogether.

And I did say "trickle charger", but I agree that a battery maintainer (like Battery Tender) is what I'll be installing -- easier on the battery.
Good point!
