Interesting. I'd have to smile at that choice, but if the wife is ok with it then go for it. We have a daylight basement . the scooters are parked there for the winter and I work on them there, but that isn't the living room.

Actually, it looks like a lovely place to work - effectively no tool clutter, nice light, and man, that wood-stove looks real cozy right now. It is 14F with 5-9 inches of snow predicted for the evening.

My wife would probably be more or less OK with it if I was able to assure her that the job would be DONE in an hour or two, and that there was NO CHANCE of gasoline spilling anywhere. But given my track record about finishing a task in a timely fashion, I would expect some significant resistance.

My scoots are in my basement as well. I have 3 of them down there right now. I am fortunate to have double doors than open into my basement. It's kind of my workshop down there.

The trick is, my girlfriend has her own place so I pretty much do as I want in here.
And yes I know the pot plant doesn't look like much, but its my precious lemon grass overwintering inside!

The job is done. Went to the Honda shop with the rear wheel for a Michel City Grip. And took the opportunity to clean some difficult to reach parts: quite some corrosion from winter salt I guess the previous owner didn't clean the scooter very often.

I finally have a garage, so I don't have to work on my bike inside the house anymore.
