mileage

Post by flyingzonker »

I seem to be getting pretty good mileage on my 2013 PCX--101 miles on .78 gal of gas. I am a skinny guy--130 lb--and maybe that makes a difference.
What octane do people use in these scooters anyway. I have been using 93 but today, by mistake, I put in regular. Does it make a great deal of difference? What is recommended?

Octane rating is listed in the user manual for the country you are in.
Because octane ratings are different across the globe you need to get he correct info for where you are.
So where are you?
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

Regular (87 octane) is what the manual states. My PCX runs fine on regular.

Yup, run the regular 87. You are wasting money on anything more, our simple engines will not adjust for a higher octane fuel.

The only problem mine has had is with ethanol in the gas. The regular gas works fine in it. When I put gas in it that has 10% ethanol, it sputters when you open the throttle. Otherwise, it does run, just not as well as it does with gas without the ethanol.

I run 87 octane as well. My husband's motorcycle manual said 93 and he started putting in reg 87 octane and actually got better gas mileage for his bike. Weight, how heavy you accelerate, and how level your riding surface does make a big difference. I weight 295 lb my average mpg is only 85.30 with 91.92 being my best and 76.81 being my worst mpg. In my area I live 40 west of Chicago and it's mostly flat but by the river it is a little hilly. Most of my driving is done at 45 mph and above except right in our subdivision. All of those factors play a role in gas mileage.

Still petrol for me. It's the green nozzle rather than the black one.
