I meant no electric start for the bike I want. All of the above mentioned defects plus kick-start only.

I like retro: this, the Suzuki TU250 (which is finally available in Cali) or the Royal Enfield Bullet 500 (in green) would do it for me. It's actually what I really wanted but my wife was super nervous about me getting a motorcycle, a scooter was much less sinister and she was ok with that so I ended up with a PCX. Gotta take baby steps sometimes I guess.

Yeah, better, but I like the late '60s style. I'm just locked into that period as far as the styling that I like best. Totally impractical, and I'd probably get a ton of rust on the chrome since I live at the beach but I can't help it.

What kind of cargo are you people carrying to work? When I commuted to work, all I needed was my brain and what fit in my pockets (door badge/ID to wear around neck, keys, phone, etc). Even when I rode to work on a bicycle and took a change of clothes, it fit into one pannier.

Since i always ride geared, any ride to work or other has to include a change of clothes and sneakers by default, so always at least a backpack worth of stuff. I also make sure to bring water and snacks when i ride, i tend to galavant and take the long routes home which sometimes involve a stop or two to goof off, beach, friend's arcade, w/e.

I also use a Cortech tail bag 2.0 and the matching saddlebags, they have rain covers included for the 1 day in rains in Los Angeles yearly.
They're kind of not fashion forward on my Daytona so i attach only when i need them.

I'm glad the clouds drop all that rain on you up there and are dry by the time they make it down here. :lol:

I carry one small rucksack to work which I need to carry with me while working.
Usually a raincoat too....
The internal storage of a scooter is not so much for carrying stuff to work, its for storing one crash helmet, one pair of gloves, one armoured jacket and one pair armoured trousers while parked at work.
And for any groceries bought on the way home from work.
If the underseat gets filled with groceries the rucksack sits on the tunnel all on its own with no bungees or fixings of any kind.
