My first accident with the PCX

Hi guys (and girls)!

There are always things to learn. You can learn it the hard way, or in a pleasant manner. Unfortunately I learn it the hard way, and my little story is like this:

I live in a tourist area. And I love it, because I meet a lot of people and almost everyone ask me questions about the PCX, what I do for my living, how did I learn to speak turkish and things like that. But in a tourist area there are many people visiting the bars, and when they walk home late in the evening, they are more or less drunk everyone.

Two of this drunk people came out from a famous bar, and went directly out in the street. They laughed and screemed to each other, and they didn`t look neighter left or right. Unfortunately me and my wife were on our way home from work, and this to gentlemen suddenly were in the street, just in front of our bike. What in **** should I do?

I braked as hard as I could. With both brakes, the front and the dual brake. I think you know what happend, don`t you? The frontwheel get locked, and my wife screamed " OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD"! But if was too late............ We didn`t hit the to drunk people, but we hit the asphalt with a bang. Our scooter went sideways one way, and me and my wife in an other direction, sliding on the asphalt. And when you live in a hot country summertime, you rarely use any protection, only t-shirt, shorts and helmet. Poor, poor us! When you slide on the asphalt for some meters, you get burn like hell! So we get burn from shoulder to ankle, on the left side both of us.

No three weeks have passed by, and the sun is still shining. I often wake up in the middle of the night, and I am braking like hell! We still love to drive the PCX, but I have started to use the dualbrake a lot more than before. Unfortunately there is not (yet) any motorbike chothes for driving summertime in 35 degrees C.

And what about our PCX? This super machine only got some scratches on the plastic bodyparts and will soon be painted!

Too bad about the accident. I know it is a way of life the way many riders dress in hot weather but I disagree with you as there are good light vented jackets avaliable that offer protection at the very least. Curious if this is making you rethink about the gear you ride in?

Really sorry to hear about your wife and yourself. Two important things....you both thankfully were not badly hurt....and it has not shaken your confidence too badly.

You can always be aware on a bike and in control of your own actions, sadly we can never anticipate what obstacles others put before us.

Heal fast both....and your health is far more important than anything else even though the bike was pretty much unscathed.

I’m wondering how much less painful it might have been if you had hit the drunk and let the drunk hit the asphalt. Or sit on the drunk while he slides down the asphalt. Did they even notice when you went down?

Just a shame that the PCX doesn't have ABS.

this may be a dumb question but when a bike is advertised with ABS is that then on each wheel? Ive locked up front wheels before, last being on a trail bike 2 mths back, and dont like it! Next bike will almost definately have ABS...

Very sorry to hear of your wreck. The drunks should pay you for damages to your bike and body.

I believe that Honda have combi-brakes with ABS and other manufacturers have independent brakes with ABS.
It's amazing tech, you can just hammer the brakes on when the road is wet and stay upright.

As far as I know, Honda PCX 125 doesn`t have ABS brakes. "Somewhat disappointingly Honda has not fitted the PCX 125 with ABS. The brakes are however combined thus both brakes are applied when the rear brake lever is pulled firmly. Glad you weren't badly hurt. I don't like riding in shorts/T-shirt. Even during summer and unless I can't avoid it (going to the beach, for example) I always ride with jeans and a summer riding jacket with elbow, shoulder and back protections.

i wear sliders jeans and a mesh jacket in hot weather.

Sure hope by now that you and your wife are feeling better. I bet it was scary! Did the drunks give you guys a hand?
Having an accident Is a rattling experience. Re-living it mentally isn't fun either, and sadly it has its way of stealing some confidence too. Thankfully time will pass and it will become another "very important top-of-the-list experience" to learn from.
I can't avoid the gear, and I do know... "to each his own"
But! don't cha think it's time to go shopping? Shoot, armored gear is one of the few defenses we have from getting hurt. So, it's Hot outside? I've ridden in 80-100 degree temps living in Florida. Very often I wanted to avoid the gear but then thought of the consequences should I tumble. That got me dressed fast. Okay, I've said enough (too much maybe?) You get my drift
