Re: Memories 1969 ?? Today
"Turn on. . .Tune in. . .Drop out" famous words of the '60's by good 'ol Dr. Timothy Leary.
A bit of wisdom from a time when nobody worried about the forthcoming solar flareups that will roach the power grid. The focus was on overcoming things like war, poverty, and hunger. Remember LBJ's "Great Society"? Turbulent times indeed.
Oh. . .yes. . .on with the video.
What were we talking about?. . .oh yeah. . .thanks!

A little something to cleanse the soul.
When life hands you a soggy shoe then it's time to walk in a dessert.

Your shoe will only get more soggy if you walk in a dessert

Re: Memories 1969 ?? Today
My older bro, my good friend Mike (RIP) and I each saved up $900.00 and went on a 90 day adventure. Yes you could live and travel on $10 dollars a day. I was riding a 450 Honda Hellcat, my bro on a homemade VW trike and Mike on a CB250 Honda. Always seemed to have enough gas, smokes?, beer and met many-many wonderful people on the way. Camping, fishing and partying in general. Often didn't make any miles in a day. Winnipeg to Tofino, (yes a night@Blood Alley in Vancouver) south to San Diego and zig-zaged back through many states. We didn't record mileage, costs or take pics. Had to tow Mike's 250 the last couple of hundred miles home.Old Grinner wrote:You could go a long way on $10 back then.Just $10.00 per day!! Did ya'll see that? Shazam!
To think you could go to a show featuring all those rock legends for so little $$$. Wow!!!
On another weekend you could take a date to a movie and still have enough for McDonalds on the way home, buy couple of 45 RPM records, and put gas back in the tank for Mom and Dad. Wow. . .times were good.
I'm going to guess gas was around 40 cents a gallon then. Somewhere in the early '70's I remember Sunoco 260 (102 Octane?) being 60 cents a gallon.
Shazam! Indeed!!!
It was my house # and my phone # for 40+ years. Can't beat 1969.

A year after my 1969 rock fest I was talked into this road trip. The problem was there was no road, just one step at a time.

Very correct.. Science is so far the only avenue we have to prove or disprove any conceptual theory. In this case it can neither be proven or disproven.gn2 wrote:Science is a misnomer.

I remember '69' was also in SVN so missed Woodstock. Went to a music festival in Wisconsin in '70 or 71 don't remember the name, drove a 57 chevi, remember the traffic jam getting into the place but not much after the music started

You can prove a glass is half empty AND half full.
But examining the glass and its contents wont tell you how pretty the girl was who drank the first half.

In ascending order - best thing about the 60's:
British Invasion
VW
Safe hitch hiking
Dylan
Watching young ladies in miniskirts climbing into the rear seat of a two door hardtop. (We never went anywhere in a 4 dr ----- eventually they began to suspect something....)

And before 1969 . . .. The Beach Boys were riding the wave of success.
Hard to believe it was that long ago. . .seems like just a few years. I still have my 45 RPM record of this.
Which makes me wonder. . .Whatever happened to Scooter Pies?

Re: Memories 1969 ?? Today
Just FYI, when I started driving back in 1964 - 65 gas wars were common. I was stationed in West Texas where there were lots of oil wells. The refineries were in East Texas, but still in Texas.
Now that I have set the stage, let me tell you about the times. The Ford Mustang had been out for one year. Big engines were in. Choose a Boss car that you like or have heard about. It was out or would be out within a year or so.
Gas prices in West Texas ranged from 17 cents to 25 cents per gallon. We didn't make a lot of money at that time, but I could fill the gas tank on my Harley Sportster for change.
Yes, those were the days. There were problems such as Vietnam, but there were good things as well, like Woodstock.

Sportster tanks are normally ridiculously small though.
