Dark coloured dipstick

Post by Yorkie150 »

Does anyone know if there is a replacement dipstick for the PCX that is manufactured in a lighter colour so that the level is easier to read ?

I cannot fathom why Honda manufactured a black dipstick for measuring a dark coloured fluid ?

All my Honda engine lawn mowers have white oil dipsticks - but sadly they dont fit :(

Beats me.
My Subaru has the same thing going...the dipstick is phosphated, so it's black. I buffed it off around the applicable area.
You have to wonder what they were thinking.

It’s hard to check the dipstick if you’re not in good light. So I changed my procedure, instead of changing the dipstick. Whenever I go for a ride that involves a short stop to run an errand ,like picking up a prescription ,I put it on the center stand before I go in the store. When I come out of the store, in bright ,direct overHead sunlight, I check it. I always get a good reading because you can see where it’s wet or dry.

Curious how often you check your oil for this to be an issue?

This really is a good point, I didn’t check my PCX more than two or three times a year. If my storage spot was clean,( no leaks), and I absolutely knew how much I was putting in, I didn’t check it. I knew it was in there. My PCX never burned oil.

I do have to say, Yamaha made a real advancement when they went to the oil sight glass. All you do is look- no messing with the dipstick.
