Can someone reccomend a decent outdoor cover please?

Hi Guys,

I've had my PCX 125 for just under 12 months now and have always used my Oxford outdoor cover, which has been brilliant. But I have now fitted a top box and the cover is no longer big enough to cover the whole bike.

I'm looking online to find another one, but not sure which size to go for, L, XL XXL etc (I can't find a label on my current one and it was so long ago that I bought it I can't remember the size). Could someone who has one please help me out? I don't want to order one and find that it doesn't fit.

Ideally I need one that has some sort of clip to fasten it to the bike as where I park at work is a bit of a wind trap. (I'm based in the UK btw)

Stay away from covermax. They claim their covers are "outdoor" but they'd be wrong. Mine started shredding after 5 months. I just got a medium Dowco cover which doesn't fit so i'll be exchanging it for a large. The dowco is thicker and the box says it's urethane coated polyester. So we'll see.

Take the topbox off before you put the cover on?
Only takes a few seconds.

Cheers Cessna, will certainly steer clear of covermax.

gn2, I know I could do that, but it kind of defeats the point of why I bought the top box, my helmet doesn't fit under my seat and I got fed up of carrying it into the office. Also I don't want to have to carry the top box round with me if I go elsewhere and the weather is rubbish.

I specifically wanted a cheap looking cover so a thief thinks I can’t afford a decent bike, and would look elsewhere. The bike only has to look good when I’m on it.

To keep out of view of thieves and rain, I bought a “weatherproof” tarp at Home Depot, folded it in half, and sewed the ends together. Easy to fit the height and length of the bike with a top box. Lock the grommets together under the bike to keep the wind from blowing it off.

If you don’t want to sew it together yourself, a cobbler or upholsterer could do it simply for you. You’ll save a ton of cash too, especially if you expect to replace it annually.

Gn2 I think you missed the point, I want the cover in case the weather takes a turn for the worse, but don't want to have to carry the top box with me in order to fit it on.

Cheers Urbanian, might look into that as an option, the Mrs likes to drag me round the garden centres this time of year so I'll keep my eyes open for what's available.

gn2 - as I said I park my scooter at work outdoors, hence I take my cover with me so I can cover my bike (doesn't sound unreasonable to me). You obv can't help me with my original question, but thanks for the "friendly" advice

Ask someone in he local bike shop. They must have come across this problem before. I got a large cover when I used one but it had a base that zipped round the bottom to cocoon the bike but it was a hassle as it had to be put down then the bike pushed into place before covering it. Great for storing it but a pain every morning and night. I don't bother covering it during the day at work as its off the road in a secure car park.

What about theft deterrent? I always bring my cover if I'm parking someplace dodgy.

Back on topic... I don't have a topcase on my PCX, but the generic Wal-Mart "Large Motorcycle Cover" I use would easily fit one. I'm unsure how durable it would be with daily use though, I haven't used mine more than 20 or 30 times.

I was referring more to the old adage "Out of sight, out of mind." If a thief wants your bike, a cover will do nothing. But the cover can prevent a potential thief from wanting the bike in the first place. It's not worth the trouble to look under every cover when there are people leaving bikes uncovered all over the place.
