10000 miles last year

Hi I live in England and got my PCX last summer, in the last 12 months I covered 10000 miles. When I first got it it was a bit uncomfortable so I took off the seat hump and installed a couple of stainless discs to stop the water getting in under the seat then I made a stainless exhaust cover to bling it up a bit and some stainless hand guards to keep the wind off in the winter , these complemented the tall screen from Honda, as you can tell I am a sheet metal worker working for BE Aerospace. With the winter approaching I also purchased some wrap round grip warmers to fend off the frosts. Good job I did because parts of the winter were the coldest for 50 years, apart from going to work late because the snow was too deep on a few mornings I had no trouble.
I serviced it myself every 3500 miles and the back tyre just needs replacing now, average MPG is always around 125 although I did get 140.4 when I tried hard, this is imperial gallons of course costing about six pounds fifty pence a gallon, its been a great bike.

I'd tackle the servicing myself but don't have the confidence that I'd get the plastics off without doing damage. That's great mileage by the way and a fine testament to Honda's build quality. I had visions of my having around 4,000 miles on the clock in the first year but changes to my shift pattern have brought the necessity to commute to Gatwick down (30 miles each way) so that on many occasions I only have to ride 6 miles into Brighton for the early trains. As a result I have only 2,500 miles under my belt. That said, it's still the highest annual mileage I've done when I haven't had the luxury of a car to share duties with. The PCX really is a joy to ride around town and so convenient.

Welcome to the forums, wingman! That's a lot of miles in a year, you're definitely getting your money's worth out of that Honda. :)

I want to see pics too, especially if the work was custom. That's awesome that you have the skills to fabricate parts like that.

I put 10,394 miles on my 2011 PCX from November, 2011 to December, 2012.......but, I had used up 2 Rear Tires, and was in bad need of a new Front Tire.......I was only getting about 5500 miles out of a rear tire.....!!!!!

Hey Wingman nice to hear you're putting miles on your PCX, and even in the snow!! I bought my 150 in September of 2012 and just turned 12,000 miles. I live in SW Florida so it's riding season year 'round and I commute to work every day on mine, one negative about living here is there are absolutely no hills and twisty roads are pretty much non existent. I recently changed both tires (second rear tire) and am amazed at the difference in ride quality and fun factor, it wants to turn again! It'll be interesting to see how many miles we can get out of this great machine before maintenance costs out-weigh it's value.

I've got over 16,000 miles on my original front tyre and it looks like it will last a while yet.

On the excessively twisty and mountain roads here, there is no way to get that kind of mileage out of a Tire....even on Sport Bikes, Rears rarely last over 4000 miles, Fronts about 7000. One good weekend on The Dragon can wipe out a set of Motorcycle Tires for lots of Riders..... 8)

GN2's also a skinny bastard. Skuuter is more stout. Weight comes into play a lot in tire life -- my rear has over 8000 miles on it and still hasn't hit the wear marks.

Bastard yes, skinny no.
I don't do much braking.
Should also mention that my rear CityGrip continues to give good service with lots of tried depth remaining at a mileage where an IRC would be looking rather bald.

..."again"..... .....on the "serious side" though, living in an Area where most all of the roads You ride are constant transition curves (as You exit one corner, You're entering the next), Tire wear is fairly excessive. You wear the Tire practically from edge to edge (or drag metal parts first on some Scooters), and the constant twisting and deflecting of the Tire's Body leads to early cupping in the center tread area. Short Tire Life here is a trade off for having some of the best ride roads and scenery in the USA. Middle Tennessee (so far) has the luxury of a lot less Traffic than East Tennessee also due to "over-hype" of "The Dragon" and the popularity of the Smoky Mountains National Park. The terrain and scenery here are pretty much the same, but with better kept asphalt because of less traffic. My Area is gradually seeing more and more Motorcycle/Trike/Scooter Traffic as more Riders discover it. I'm leading a Ride here Today with a mix of Trikes, Motorcycles, and Scooters on Local Ridge, Country, and Mountain Roads..... 8)

so, Skuuter, that leads to several other questions... what is the approximate life of a tire under normal wear. is that different for front or back tires? is that different for scooter or motorcycle tires? and lastly, what is your tire life in the hills of Tennessee?

Standard PCX IRC: fronts can last 16000 + miles, rears about 5000-8000
Michelin City Grip rears seem to last longer

The Michelin City Grip is such a better tire than stock. It's not an upgrade that needs to be done unless it's time for new tires, but if you like to ocassionally ride aggressively, it's much more confidence inspiring. I've scraped my centerstand quite a few times since replacing both front and rear unintentionally during normal riding, and like GN2 said, they wear much better than the stock tires.
