They just weld the crack as they have specialist welding equipment for alloy. I don't know if this would be an option if the casing is cracked but not actually broken off yet. They may even be able to attach an extra web to add strength to the pivot.

It seems a bit daft to have the center stand mounted like that anyway. It would be better on the frame instead.

Most Scooters use the Engine/Trans/Swingarm as an integral frame member to keep weight to a minimum, and the Center of Gravity low. The Engine is used for Center Stand Mounting on a lot of Scooters (and some Motorcycles) very successfully. It looks like Honda slightly over did the weight savings on the PCX125's Center Stand Lugs, then realized Their mistake quickly and tried to rectify the issue...hopefully Honda helps the purchasers that have had issues at some point.....!!!!!

They should but the labour time and an engine casing would wipe out any profit on a £2500 bike so they will probably fight it if its out of warranty. The only thing is that if you can prove it is not fit for purpose. In the UK the sale of goods act can be used even if its out of warranty if the items aren't of satisfactory quality so you can be able to get the item repaired.

Frame mounting a scooter centrestand can seriously affect cornering clearance.

Given that the affected PCX 125s shipped from the factory with a substandard component unfit for purpose, Honda should be paying up in full.

If Honda will not stump up for parts and labour I think I will be expirementing with some two-part grey gloopy stuff, but will certainly bear that welding option in mind.
Worst case, it would be good if it could be welded up without too much disassembly.

It could probably be welded while still in the Scooter with it suspended high enough..... ;)

Anyone have news from Honda about this issue? Even tho its out of warranty i feel, as gn2 said it clearly 'not fit for purpose' but i it would be impossible to prove we haven't abused the stand!

I really HATE using the side stand, very difficult to put shopping in, cant start it to warm on the side stand, takes up loads more space in the garage, unsafe resting my helmet or anything on the seat.........

I know its prob unsafe but could i override the side stand switch like i did the seat (just glued it) so i can start up on the side stand? At idle my wheel moves slowly but i doubt its enough to ride off on its own?!

you can disconnect the side stand switch and cut the 2 wires, and solder the 2 wires together (I think one is blue and one is black).
this is the first electrical mod I did, because I knew I wasn't going to be using the center stand.
loosen the throttle cable nuts at the throttle body a little bit, if you got a ghost rider

hey, not been about much recently but i just had a major service on my 125 as i had a couple of problems, 6 months out of warranty and my centre stand pretty much over night became really stiff, i stopped using it and about a month later took it for a service, had to have front fork seals replaced and anew tyre which i dont mind about, the thing i was disappointed with is the fact the honda dealership could not fix the stand, they couldnt even remove it and asked me if i minded them cutting it off as i needed a new one. my shitty baotian 125 had the worst engine imaginable and broke every week but at nearly a third of the price of the honda i didn;t expect much, but after 5 years of riding it i suffered no problems with the stand.
this annoys me about the pcx and plan on upgrading next spring

I think an amendment to the service schedule about lubricating the stand pivots should be made. Looks like is going to be a problem. Lets not forget they are a max of 3 years old. What are they going to be like at double that.

Not sure that lubrication is the total solution.

Mine had been done (and photographed for the how-to) a few weeks before it broke.

I remember being totally surprised when Maddie's went and felt sure that someone must have been sitting on it on the stand.
Having examined the remnants of my broken mount I'm no longer surprised they break.
Its just not strong enough for the job.

Latest instalment...

Local dealer advise Honda will supply parts as "goodwill gesture" but only if dealer does the work and this estimated at 12 hours labour costing around £720 o_O

Next step, letter to Honda.

Dealer did as much as can reasonably be expected.
Sadly it is the dealer who will lose out on further custom if Honda fail to sort the problem.

Was re-reading this thread an just noticed this comment you made Maddie.
I'm not so sure.
On mine if I hadn't noticed a slight wobble when it went up on the centre stand and had a look at it I could easily have ridden off with the stand hanging down, which would pose a severe danger during cornering.
