With less than 900 miles on my PCX I found a nail embedded in the tread of my rear tire yesterday.

Taking the rear wheel off was easier than I thought. The 2 Youtube videos I found were sort of helpful. One guy actually took his muffler heat shield off first.
Another guy took his right side panel/footrest plastic off. Guys, you dont need to take any plastic panels off to do this.

Tip: Take the Allen-head screw off the plastic splash guard so you don't have to wrestle the wheel off the axle.

At the the local cycle dealer, the service department advisor told me that the absolutely Do Not patch tires as they cannot guarantee customer safety. Next he wanted to recommend putting an inner tube in. (no thanx)
So I asked if I he could order a Pirelli Diablo or Michelin City Grip? No City Grips in my size anywhere in the US and only one Diablo in my state. The other was in a warehouse on the east coast. Hopefully in time we will see more inventory of 14" scooter tires.

Anywhoo.... I do not yet own a service manual. Can someone look up the the torque specification for tightening the axle nut?

P.S. The factory does not use anti-seize compound on any of the bolts. I would recommend using this whenever reassembling as this makes your next disassemble much easier.

Glad to hear removal was easier than thought to be. Here's a snapshot from manual. Get 'er done and go for a ride. It's Sunday, my favorite day to ride. Temp will be reaching 91 degrees here....HOT!

I just picked up a nail (or something, clean puncture in center of rear tire) this past Friday. I know most people will disagree with this, but I plugged it until new tires get here. I have 11,689 miles on my front stock tire and 8,965 on rear City Grip, happy with the wear of both of these tires but decided to go with front City Grip this time from same company GN2's link was for on ebay. $102 shipped to my door. My stock tire developed a crack in the sidewall at about 2,700 miles and seemed to be about as worn as my current City Grip at almost 9,000 miles. I have a feeling I won't need to replace my new front tire, barring something unforseen, for quite some time.

A plug in the center of the tread isn't horrible, a crack in the sidewall or a sidewall plug are both extremely dangerous.

Well that's what I thought. My nail puncture was almost dead center of the tread, yet the dealer refused to patch it. Next time I might just learn how to unmount/mount a tire myself.

And here I thought I would help the local economy by purchasing the tire at the cycle shop. They thank me by charging me $50 more than what the tire would cost me online.

A useful skill to learn, another one is how to use a tubeless tyre repair kit
The hard parts of changing a tyre are breaking the bead and getting the new one seated.
Taking the old one off and getting the new one on are easy enough.
I use a garden spade and my not inconsiderable bulk to break the bead but last time I cheated and took the wheel to my friendly 4x4 garage to get them to seat the new tyre with their super-duper compressory thingumabob.

I can't remove or remount a scooter tire. It's damn near impossible, the tires are too small. I can do it on a larger bike though (dirt bike).

You just need the right tools for the job.
With a pair of decent tyre levers its a piece of piss.

The key word was "decent", you need a good pair of tubeless specific ones at least 400mm long.

And while we're talking about "a good pair", here's one for you:

Great news, I got my wheel & new tire back yesterday and am going to put it all together after work today.

Hey WhiteNoise (or anybody with the shop manual) could you post the torque specs for the muffler fastener bolts and swing arm bolts? I would like to include that info when I post the pics and write up info later.
