How do I replace the shutter key mechanism?

I just bought a used 2013 PCX 150, but only have one key. It was cheaper to buy the whole shutter mechanism, because it came with two blanks. Now I need to find out how to remove the plastic covering without breaking it. Any experienced mechanics with advice?

Welcome to the forums!

This isn't a how-to per the guidelines here, so I'm moving it to General.

Are you attempting to remove the entire ignition mechanism or just the cover? I'm a bit unclear, since you talked about blanks and only having one key.

It is just the cover piece (silver), which includes the shutter. The replacement has 3 screw holes. The ignition stays the same. The blank keys are cut to the original ignition, but don't work on the shutter. That is why the whole piece has to be changed. The black plastic fairing that surrounds it probably just pops off, but I don't want to break it if I am wrong. This probably all sounds confusing. I would post a picture, if I knew how.
Meanwhile, I am glad to join the forum and I love my PCX :D

The black plastic ignition surround just pops off, pull it towards you, it has 4 tabs holding it.( you may need to pry the corners a little)
Not sure if you can take the shutter out( if that is what you are trying to do).
But that is nothing a Dremel tool can't fix.

Correction 3 tabs... Any updates on your key/shutter issues?

No luck popping off that black plastic piece. I tried prying with a plastic screw driver, but it wouldn't budge. I'm afraid of breaking the plastic. I will probably just leave it and use the keys as a back up set without using the shutter. Thanks for your thoughts anyway.
