Tire Size?

I have seen many discussions on types of tires, but what about size? I am down to the wear marks on my PCX 150 rear tire. Has anyone tried to use a bigger tire on the rear? What size will it handle? I was thinking like a 110 or 120/ 90- 14... but wondered if anyone has done similar?

Thanks.

Why. Have you had problems with your existing tyre that are size related?

You You- no, but thought a slightly larger tire would ever so slightly improve fuel economy, speed and ride cushion- al beit on a micro level.

Check Michelin city grip and pirelli diablo for the sizes you want.

We are about to replace our back tire also but we just bought a City Grip of the same size. We havent put it on yet, but the tire itself looks like it will have better grip than our original tire did.

How many miles does the original tire get before replacement? I just bought a used pcx with 5795 miles on it and the back tire needs replaced. The guy I got it from said he already changed it once. It has the oem type tire on it right now.

An OEM rear tyre lasts roughly 4500-7000 miles.
Michelin CityGrip rear should last much longer.

140/70-14 is the biggest that will fit on the rear and it will increase your top speed by 3%.
Dasshreddar has stated that it improves handling and comfort.

I have a 140/70-14 City Grip on the back of my PCX. I noticed a difference in handling as soon I installed it and the City Grip on the front as well. You may need to lift the rear fender though because it is very close. I was able to lift mine because I put on an aftermarket canister shaped breather which meant that the hole in the fender which the OEM breather was attached to was able to be used to put a zip tie through to lift it up a little bit and fasten it to the frame.

Dont think there is 120 90 14 size. Can try the Irc wings series 120 70 14,no mod needed
Do you think that a 120/70-14 will really fit without any mod. ?
The image shows a 110/80 -14 mounted on a PCX 150. There're <5mm remaining to each side.

Hay Kramnala, on your front city grip, did you go up in size or stay with the 90/90 ?
.
thanks

Sean ... I put the 120/70 on the front and the 140/70 on the back. As I mentioned in an earlier post, it lifted the rear splash guard slightly but did nothing with the front fender. A few months ago I swapped out the front fender because I like the look of the new one better. When I took the old on off I could see where the tire had rubbed it slightly, but it may have been the previous tires that did that. In my opinion, 120/70 on the front and 140/70 on the back is as large as you should gou without expecting to make mods.

All the best,
Mark

Well we finally put the new City Grip on the rear. Same size as the original, which had 7200 miles on it. The bike handles much better. I can't imagine putting a larger size on. There isn't much clearance, and when we hit a pot hole I don't think a larger one would handle it without hitting the fender and possibly the shocks if it is wider. As it is, with the City Grip it corners much better than it did with the original tire.

Had it actually rubbed? Sometimes you get water or spray marks from a rotating tyre that looks similar

Hay Mark, thank you.
I guess this means my Federal Formosa 150/65-14 car tire won't fit.
No darkside for PCX, and no cookie.

Well, I ordered the City Grip in the original size- 100/90- 14. I am actually looking to trade it in on the Forza...so good I didnt get a bigger one. I almost wonder if Im wasting money by putting on the new one or just trade in as is and return the new tire. Not sure if the Dealer is actually giving or taking anything due to the tread level of the tire. Thoughts?

A private sale might net you more cash than trading it in.
New rear tyre makes for easier sale at higher price.
