2013 PCX 150 USA Real World Speed Information/reviews

Post by bpmch02 »

Hello everyone! I currently have a 2013 Yamaha Zuma 50F that I got last year for riding around town and just really fell in love with riding. Now I am about to take my motorcycle cert and am looking into getting another scooter to replace the Zuma with, but something that I can use to go the speed limit.

I have been researching the PCX 150 and think it is my most promising lead since I want to get something as cost effective as possible in order to upgrade, yet be able to ride the speed limit. Based on what I have seen, it looks like the top speed of the PCX is about 70mph, but that's a best case. I am looking for real world examples of a top, easily maintained speed for this scooter (I weigh about 195 pounds).

Additionally, I would like to be able to ride 2up with my wife from time to time and would need the scooter to be able to accommodate both of us, yet let us go about 60mph to go the speed limit on all the roads around me (she weighs about 145 pounds)...is this possible or would it be a stretch? What are your real world examples of maintained speeds with 2up?

If this scooter won't work, I am considering a Forza but would like to avoid that if possible due to the extra cost and the fact that it is only available in red, I don't really know how I feel about a red scooter.

Finally, I am torn between waiting for a 2015 model or just getting a 2013 at a discount...I think the 2013 is a good scooter, but the newest one may be better. It looks like I would have to wait until August and where I live that would only give me a few months before winter so I want to avoid that is possible, but what do you guys think?

If I missed some of these answers in the forums forgive me, I am new here and tried to look but didn't really see the answers to these questions anywhere...

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!

I have had a PCX150 for a year. I am 6'1in tall and weigh 260 lbs. My PCX has no trouble going 55 mph all day and once in a while push it to 65. If you plan to ride at high speeds a lot and 2 up, in my opinion, definitely go for the Forza. The pcx will be maxed out with what you want to do.

Similar speeds as strider 123 has gotten but 6"4" at 240lbs

Depending on terrain, 2 up should still get you the same top speed, just longer to get there
Too many scoots..... 12 or so I think .

With a single rider, are you guys able to maintain 60mph despite hills, etc?

At 6'2" 240lbs mine tops out at 60mph on flat roads no wind. Hills and head wind easily reduces that by 10mph or more. I suggest you look for something bigger especially if you want to ride 2 up.

I am so confused given the posts from people, videos, and marketing that says that with a single rider this bike can easily maintain at least between 60-70mph on all terrain

Hope this helps. I weight 170 on a good day. so 165 usually. I am 6'2. Going up a 30 degree slope, the most I can max out on my 2013 PCX150 is 55.(probably 45 with another person) that's 30 degrees confirmed uphill. That's a big incline.

top speed on the freeway, ducked down, downward slope, full throttle (GPS confirmed) I can't go faster than 66 mph. Almost as if it's governed but doesn't pop or bounce rev's once at 66.

So, if you plan on going freeway with 2up. Get a 400. If you plan on doing side streets under 60, stick with the pcx. If you plan on going uphill and don't mind going between 40-45 while 2up, the pcx is fine.

Also, if you are 6'0 or taller, I'd recommend getting a new seat. that hump on the seat is exactly where i need to sit at 6'2, so I had to take it off. Now im sitting on hard plastic seat frame instead of cushion. Need to find someone to cut that out and re-do the padding, then re-vinyl.

Good luck,
Adam

I have really been leaning towards the pcx but it am worried about getting it and trying to go on a 55mph road alone or a 50mph road two up and hitting a hill and it being all over...I guess I'll have to look closer at the Forza but I really don't know about that orangish red...also the cost is so much more.

Coming from a Zuma 50F I'm sure either of these would feel like rocket ships but I don't want to buy one and then be in a bad spot.

Thanks again, any other input is welcome...I am buying closer to the end of the month.

Well you need a Forza or a used Reflex if it has to be Honda.
Kymco Downtown is another option.

30° is some slope!, the kind I'd feel comfortable skiing down but not riding up :)
