GPS Mounted

Post by SilentSamurai »

Got bored this weekend and didn't like the tall ram mount setup, so drilled the backing plate (device holder) straight into the bar connectors and good to go. As for wiring, I'll eventually run it down and parallel next to the gas filler, but now i'll just run it between my legs from under the seat.

Sorry for the tiny photos, but apparently I can't post anything bigger than this....

I have mine mounted on the brake reservoir using a Ram Mount. I can move it around on an attachment arm. I have it close to the center of the forks, like Silent has his, but without having to drill anything.

The ram mount I purchased has a similar wrap around the handle bars, and I use very similar on my Honda Ruckus but a cheaper japanese brand for my HTC cell phone. I usually try to avoid drilling but I think it looks great and clean. I could always replace those bar mounts if i wanted for cheap.

Thanks for the replies,

I have a U Bolt from ram mounted on my handle and my new PCX has a 12V power outlet too so every thing works nicely. Happy days.

Good looking and also functional add-on. I will try to find a solution to mount my smart phone which is samsung note 3 quite big on my Bike. Then I will be able to used navigation via cell phone. But I think I will have to install 12v lighter to charge Thé phone

I have the ram mount ball that goes on top of the bar riser.
Then a short arm to make relocatable as needed.

What the heck are those orange things on each side of the windshield? I have never seen anything like them.

Mel, are you referring to my deluxe waterproof add on glove box. :D

Waterproof box held on with 3m hook & loop fasteners to windshield.
I've only seen them here in the orange color.
Camping section of walley world, about $7 each.

A bit of an update on the orange boxes.
They fit and work great with the tall GIVI screen. :D
With these 90 plus temps, took a ride and when I got home,
pulled tall windscreen and went to summer short GIVI.
Orange boxes don't work with shorter windscreen.
So this will be a winter accessory.

I can't imagine riding without my tall windscreen even in the really hot summer. Yes I would love to have the wind blow on my face but when I am doing 55-60 mph my helmet is pounded by the wind without the tall screen. That makes riding uncomfortable to me except if I am just riding around town. However I am not going to switch back and forth on the windscreens, so the tall one will remain forever. Our last ride was hot enough that we ordered some summer helmets. I don't like going down on the amount of protection I have while riding, but summers in Georgia get sweltering, and the humidity is horrible. The only place I have ever been to that had worse humidity was New Orleans, which sits in a bowl....and maybe Savannah. I have lived in every state in the United States except Alaska. Humidity is a killer.

Hey Mel I've never heard of summer helmets. My husband just bought a new mesh jacket that is a light gray instead of black and he is planing on getting a silver helmet instead of the black one he currently has. I think he is getting a Gmax with a removable chin bar and it has an option to put a brake light on the helmet.

I would put a mount there but I have my clock there.

BrAtKo - what mount did you use? A ram mount or such? Looking to get a Ram mount for my phone but not sure what one of their many types works best for fixing like you've done. Thanks!

Here is a picture of my scooter without everything hooked up. Note the Ram Mount ball on the brake reservoir, which I use for my gps. There is a 12 volt outlet above and to the left of the gas cap door for power. I have a cup holder on the handlebar, and I bought a $1 watch at a Dollar Store and installed it as a clock on the handlebar. I also have a Ram Mount ball on the left upper panel for a camera, which I mount with a long arm.... and of course I have a new seat and tall Givi windscreen.

The one we consider our 'summer helmet' is the red one. It is not a regular half helmet or a skull cap. Yet I dont feel as safe wearing it as I do the yellow one.
