Stock size city grip should be sufficient, I changed mine to city grip, my scoots now scraping the road when cornering to way before worrying about about losing traction. They seem more stable in rain than the irc's do in the dry!

The stock IRCs are just a nightmare to ride on when even a slight bit of rain falls.
Considering you're from rainy UK I'm wondering if is it just enough to change to the citygrips stock size?

Did you notice considerable difference when riding over sewer lids and zebras?

I agree. Get rid of the IRC's and fit standard city grips.

City grip feel better grip in wet than stock does in dry. Something not right with stock irc's in my opinion.

Just get standard size you won't be disappointed at all it feels like a different scoot. Had my city grip on over a month now and not slipped or slid on anything, Im not saying they won't slide on lids and painted road surfaces surfaces I'm sure any tyre would have a limit but I've yet to find the city grips limit and I ain't no Sunday driver!

I'm no moto gp racer but the city grips are far better than the standard IRC wet or dry.
I fitted the stock size. The main thing is that you get more milage from the city grip as well from what people are saying. The IRC on the back only lasted 4500 miles but the front was still ok. I replaced them both to keep them the same although some people don't.
We do get plenty of rain but it keeps the grass green.

Ircs are absolutely fine for me. Never had the slightest issue.

Try city grips on your next change, they are around the same cost. I think then you might agree with the many people who have tried them and commented on what a difference they make to the handling/stability.

Stock size Michelin City Grips are simply amazing hands down.

I've been wondering the same thing - this time around google is not my friend as it's proving hard to find anywhere that stocks them in the PCX size - only place I found wanted £90 a set but that was mail order off ebay! Every motorcycle website or tyre website I find, when I try and fine the city grips in the PCX size or use their tyre finder, I never find them! It can't be this hard can it?

2. Definitely putting a larger airband between the wheel and road will affect ride. The forces with a scooter are slight enough that I would say the largest effect would be to soak up some imperfections and give a smoother ride over uneven surfaces. I doubt if cornering would be affected, though wide/low profile tyres certainly win my confidence vote for cornering anything over 160km/h.

3. Performance also.

Dynamic Performance is improved very slightly with lightweight, thinner, harder (more highly inflated) tyres.

Top speed is affected greatly by airflow and rolling resistance (which is affected by having a larger contact patch). NOT by the weight unless you're going uphill.

Performance is NOT measured in miles per gallon... You're throwing 'efficiency' into the mix. For greater efficiency you should have the thinnest, lightest spoked wheels n tyres. What we actually WANT here is to trade a little efficiency and benefit from a maximum 'comfort' gain... and possibly feel a whole lot more confident in the rain or over uneven road surfaces.

I'm personally curious whether it's the 'unsprung' mass on the rear wheel that helps differentiate the PCX handling from that of my old GSX-R. Obviously the monoshock would be in a different league, but there's only so much you can do. The basic format of the bike is the main consideration.

A much more interesting question (though possibly harder to answer) would be to compare the effect of adding some YSS G-Pro shocks and the effect of adding 100/70 120/70 R14 Michelin City Grips.

Apparently the unsprung mass ( the whole gearbox, final drive, the heavy end of the exhaust etc.) has something to do with the rear of the scooter very different from a supersport bike. But also inertia of the rear assembly is quite high. I mean the engine is in front of the pivot point of the rear engine/swingarm/transmission assembly but it still rotates when the suspension is moving.

As I wrote also in another topic I'm running a very similar setup. Upgrade front suspension with 110/80r14, and yss Z series ( same as g euro but without external reservoir) with 120/80 r14 tires. Stock wheels both front and rear. I wanted to gain the little extra diameter with the larger tire. This way the front wheel is 720 grams ( actually only 560 as I saved 160g with the wave brake rotors) and the rear is about 600gr heavier than my slightly worn oem IRCS.
Regardless of the heavier wheels the suspension is night and day better due to the upgraded parts and the slightly (8%) taller rubber.
