Does your bike hit the rev limiter now? The problem with a PCX125 is that it was intentionally limited to 62 mph. It has a lower rev limit than the 150.And less power. You could change the variator which might give a few additional mph when going down a steep hill but you will still be stuck around 62 mph based on horsepower versus wind. You are definitely not going to hit the rev limited top speed of 70 with a vario change because you just don't have enough power to go that fast on a stock 125 engine.

Thanks for the speedy help sendler. You're awesome.

Yes, my bike hits the rev limiter now, at 58 MPH (GPS). Seems to be lower than what I expected. Tires are at correct PSI; I've got a mid-size Givi windshield on it (D322); and I'm a short (5' 8") lightweight (140 lbs) guy. Any idea why I'm hitting the rev limiter at 58? Old belt maybe?

I guess if I AM hitting the rev limiter, then I might still get a few MPH more out swapping variator/drive face?

Yes. Normal belt wear in caused my 2013 PCX150 top speed to drop from 66 to 64 by 2,000 miles. You might get back up to 62-64 with the NCY and have the added advantage of cruising at this speed while not being floating on and off the limiter which kills the fuel economy even more than wide open throttle.

Interesting.... Great; I'll replace the belt! And then consider the NCY. Would you recommend using the NCY rollers too?

Didn't know that floating on and off the limiter killed mileage. Good to know.

ebay has the NCY vario, drive face and rollers as a kit might as well put the new rollers in. How many miles on your 125?

A tad under 5,000 or so.

I think just replacing the belt might only recover some speed for 1,000 miles. Might better just wait until you decide to get a vario and start fresh with everything new. I found this listing which is a no-name vario from the same factory as the NCY.

Sendler, thank you for taking the time to search and post. Wish I could give you plus rep or something on these boards....

Sadly, five minutes ago I just ordered the variator and drive face from the CorSport links given earlier in the thread...
http://www.corsportusa.com/2010-honda-p ... rive-face/
http://www.corsportusa.com/2010-honda-p ... on-pulley/

Now that I look at the second listing again, it doesn't seem to come with the rollers. Hm. If I need to order them separately, what weight do you recommend? 13g?

I have never used that vario and the people who have prefer 13g even though Homies video shows the rpm to be 7,800 with those weights. The power peak is between 8-8,300 rpm so i would think I would want no higher than the 12g I am running in my stock vario which gives 8,000.

Do you know if that peak power at 8,000-8,300 holds for PCX 125s too?

Yes. it is fun to have a tach to help you set the weights. Shoot for 8,000 rpm.

Okay, so I found a scooter shop who gave me favorable rates for an install(drive face & secondary slider/torque cam):
50 bucks.

The guy was also kind enough to point out that the torque cam I bought is actually the top piece of the complete NCY secondary slider assembly I also bought, so I kind of wasted money there. Not sure which one to use, but I figure I'd bring in both, tell him what I'm going for(better accel past 60 mph), and let him decide.

He also reiterated that the performance camshaft would go much better with a big bore kit than this stock setup. I think if the labor costs for that is also favorable, I might sink money into that(big bore) at the end of the next school semester. He was however, strangely insistent that a new drive face wouldn't affect the speed, though I have to wonder if most of these aftermarket drive faces have the same angle and diameter as stock.

Yeah, probably simpler to buy a bigger bike, but as I've experienced a couple days ago, I had to literally squeeze my PCX between two cars to get it out(and fold the side mirrors on the cars), so I doubt a bigger bike would improve upon that clusterf***.

I'm not happy with my new Yamaha SMAX. (There's lots to like about it — but it's just not for me.) So I've just made arrangements with a local dealer to trade it in for a brand new red 2013 PCX 150. :P

I'm excited. This will leave our red PCX 125 available for my wife's sole use, while I hog the new 150.

Now just have to decide which of our bikes will get the new NCY variator and drive face (and whether to use 12g or 13g rollers with it).... I'm guessing the 150 might see more benefit from it?

Unless you're hurting for money, I don't see why you wouldn't do both. It's about $110 per set.

The 150 would see more benefit, because it has more power. IIRC, the gear is also made to run longer for the 150.

But both scooters should see a big bump up in top speed and acceleration.

Are there a lot of backroads where you live? What does your wife intend to use it for? If she plans to go on the highway, and traffic regularly goes to 60 or more, then the NCY set is very much recommended(I had a real pain trying to merge from the ramp with only stock acceleration, even if the top speed of 63 mph was good). If not, and it's mostly just for street riding, she might like the tamer acceleration of the stock set.

Still, you might want to be patient with the drive face. I put the order in, was told it wasn't in stock(same story every other vendor I tried), and couldn't get an ETA on that part for two weeks. I've since ordered an alternative drive face from Japan, though I don't know if it works well with the NCY variator(14 degrees and a 120mm larger diameter drive face).

Actually, I just put new factory parts on my PCX150 and with the DrPully sliders, I got much longer gearing. So the new bike might benefit just as much from just changing to 12 or 11 gm sliders. The used bike will need new pullies to get past the wear ridge anyway so it might as well get the aftermarket vario.

Frankly, if I were to go through the trouble of cracking the transmission open, I'd throw in the vario and drive face too just so I'm not tempted to pop that thing open again whenever I want "just a little more".

Of course, I'll still get that urge for "just a little more" even then, and "just a little more" ends up going past 80mph and going from 0-60 in 10s :D .

Thanks to Sendler, who posted this link a few posts above, I ordered my set from this eBay seller:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/181327427488?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

I placed the order less than 24 hours ago, yet the vendor has already sent me full shipping information -- along with four (!) photographs: the assembly laid out, the invoice, the assembly in the box, and the sealed box plastered with the complete international mailing label and custom form. I have NEVER seen such thoroughness in my life -- no vendor has ever sent me a photograph of the box complete with filled-out address label. o_O

Just to confirm....that kit will work on both the 2011 PCX 125 and 2013 PCX 150? If so, I'll order a second ASAP.

Might as well wait and see how it works. It is only a 1/2 hour job to switch a vario from one to the other and see what it does on both machines. I sneak the bolts out of the cover without touching any of the bodywork. You may want to order different weights with the next one if you are not pulling at 8,000 rpm.
