NEWS FLASH!!! 2015 US Model reads out in Imperial (UK) MPG

Post by ScooterMan »

Well bummer! I was kind of thinking that 108.1mpg was to good to be true on my 2015. I'd seen as high as 120mpg on a 12mile round trip a couple weeks ago. My 2013 typically gets 77-80mpg, but I hammer on that and ride full throttle everywhere. After getting the 2015 and having the fuel eco guage, it's tamed me and made me more conscious of the mpg, and I've been driving much more modestly on them both.

Today, I finally filled up after my last fill up and have some hard data.

Guage read 107.6mpg. Filled up with .816 US gallons with 75.5 miles on the trip meter. Actual US MPG? 92.5mpg!

US MPG X 1.17 = Imperial MPG

Imperial MPG X .855 = US MPG

So, sorry to have to tell you all this, but the MPG is not as awesome as we all thought. Although, I'll still take 92.5mpg US. Not bad for a freeway legal scoot that tops out at 76mph.

That's weird. Some Kymco scooters in the US have odometers in km.

I believe you can change it to read other than mpg - should read true then? litres/km's?

I thought as much. Some of the reports of 125 mpgUS for the trip computer of the 2015 PCX150 were just too high to believe it could be that much more efficient than the 2013. This is the same situation they ran into on the CBR500R forum where it was eventually proven that the mpg reading on the dash was in UK gallons so it was 19% higher than the actual tank fills for mpgUS. Unfortunately, I have been accustomed to mpgUS for so long that Liters/ 100km seems completely backwards and foreign to me.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that their 2013 gets only about 77-86 mpg. Does the 2015 have a higher top end then the 2013? I only get 62 mph on a good day with no wind.

My wife and I have 2013 PCXes. I consistently get 100 mpg +/-, she generally gets around 106. Based on miles driven and the amount of fuel put on.

That said, you are able to get to 76 mph on your PCX?? We both hit the rev limiter at 67 mph, and it takes a lot of running room to get there after passing through 60 mph. We have verified those numbers with GPS (both of our speedometers are spot on to about 40 mph, then off by about 1 mph above that).

Under what conditions are you able to get 76 mph?

Anyone hitting an actual 76 mph on a PCX has at least an aftermarket variator and is going downhill.

On the freeway, on a flat or close, no headwind, in a race tuck.

My techniche is to lay my middle and ring finger flat in between the 2 handlebar clamps, and lay my chin down while scooting my bum as far back against the hump as possible.
