I bought it new, have put 4500 miles on it trouble free, uses no oil, runs flawless. Best scooter I have ever owned, gets about 85-95mpg. Well, the last two times I stopped to get gas, start it back up and give it throtle, it dies. Crank it back up, give it throtle, it dies. this goes on for about half dozen times, and finally it decides to run, and gives no trouble after that. I even have tried to create the same effect by stopping and removing the gas cap, wait a couple minutes, put it back on and crank it up. Runs great. Don't understand what is different about getting gas. Any ideas? Wallacem in Ga

My guess is a Gremlin living in your gas tank who gets annoyed and wet when you refill?!?

Solution is simple--don't buy any more gas. Oh, wait ...

Maybe it has something to do with engine or exhaust heat vaporizing fuel some ware in-between the tank and the fuel injector. I've had problems with car's in the past sort of like what you describe. I even had it happen when winter gas was still in the tank on a hot day in the spring.

Ever get the valves adjusted?

It sounds like a too rich condition to me.
Maybe someone could check the evap purge solenoid troubleshooting in the service manual - mine is in the garage and it is past midnight here - but that is an electically controlled subsystem what could cause such issues imho.
Also you could try not filling the tank ful-full. On your next refill might fill it halfway just to test if that helps.

Just in case of gremlin or a Ne'er-do-well has sweetened your tank or in the unlikely event you put diesel drain that funky fuel and put some fresh.

Maybe you have some water on the bottom of the fuel tank. when you fill it up you disturb and some of it is sucked into the injector.

Hopefully not the filter. Maybe run some Seafoam through it.

All good responses. I always run a fuel additive in my gas, year round. I did just 10 minutes ago, get low on gas, so filled up again, and no problem this time. I also did run a big dose of Seafoam in the last tankfull just to make sure, now, whether that had anything to do with it doing good this time or not, who knows. We will see if it does it again. Perhaps just run it on petrol?

Stop using additives and check your spark plug, it is probably out of specification and covered in burnt additive.

I have had mine do the same thing but only if I try and fill it to the max after getting in the most gas it will hold if I stop when I should it no problem

Sounds like a fuel problem rather than a spark problem to me. A bad spark plug would cause poor performance overall and, most noticeably, hard starting. That said, at 4500 miles you could justify a new plug if you wanted to. I'll be interested to see what you find.

After reading posts here I'm wondering if this is a 2011 model problem. Anyone else with an '11 have this issue of hard starts after adding fuel?

This brings back memories of automobile's that got clogged fuel filters (or lines). (Going back now kiddies) My VW Beetle was notorious for clogging, but oh so easy to switch out to new. Twas just a clear plastic bubble, with two valve ports out the sides. You saw the paper rippled sleeve inside. If it was dirty, replace. Simples for a $buck.98. Those were the days!! A porous distributor cap would have you standing still too. Pop it, dry it and snap her back on. Off ya go now
