got my new 2016 PCX 150 today

Post by pongo »

Picked up my silver 2016 pcx today. I like it better than my 2013 150 that I sold to buy my CTX700. Styling is better, has a bigger fuel tank, larger glove box with power port, plus has a tab to hold up the seat when open. I seems to run a lot better, my 2013 took almost 500 miles before running at 55 mph, this one does 60 mph, not pushing it hard mind you, with only 2 miles on the odometer. Plus the small hump in the seat is gone.

I like the styling and the larger tank on the newer ones, but my 2013 can do 75 mph now. I have it just about the way I like it.

Yeah, the 2013 needs a bit of modification to be perfect, but once the mods are done, it's a wonderful little scoot.

So glad you enjoy your 2016 though. :D

You say you like the styling better? I confess I don''t. They are trying to catch the walk-through-look wave that seems to be rolling in these days--check the SMax et al. I like my 2013 better. More sporty. If I want the Vespa look, I'll get a Vespa--not really, too dorky looking for this old man who is dorky looking enough as it is.

How have you modified the bike to get that kind of speed? And at what price in mpg?

The mpg does not seem to be as affected as I had thought it would be. It does depend on your riding style. As for mods to get that speed, mostly it is the NCY variation and drive face plus 13 gram rollers, and it has to have a new belt if you are going to install those... I also have the tall Givi windshield that I polish with Novus #1 before a ride so that stuff slides off. We have Michelin City Grips as well, and a very comfortable seat.

first tank of fuel 106.4 mpg, only does 63MPH right now, but only has 200 or so miles on it. Once broke in I will open it up. I loved my black 2013 also, but sold it to get my CTX700. This one is silver and black, my favorite colors, seat feels way better. I think it is going to be just fine
I paid $2860 for it with .8 tenths of a mile on the odometer. I traded in a bike, and got a check from the dealer to boot. After all the figures run, 2860 is what I have in the scooter. Plus the bike I traded in was a flip bike, got it for a song.

Hey mel46 how did you get past 70. With my 2013 going down a long grade, it would hit 70 easy, but sounded like it had a limiter in it so it could not go past the 68 to 70 mark.

70 is pretty reliable for me with NYC variator, 13g rollers, mollassi exhaust and give tall windshield and a 220 pound rider..setup equals mostly 100 mpg tanks too running 50-60 and in town 35 mph or less
2015 pcx with NYC variator and faceplate and 13g NYC rollers

I hit 71mph (no tuck) with just 11g sliders and restricted exhaust, and I'm 260lbs!

Do any of you feel like you hit a speed limiter on your PCX. My 2013 would not let you go past 68 MPH, the motor would like "shut down" until you got below that speed, then it would run right back up to 68, then do it all over again, I have not tried the 2016 that fast yet.

I can't quite hit the rev limiter (120kph) on the road, but on the stand it's very obvious when you do. Blip blip blip blip blip...
It you try to find the max speed on the centre stand you need to be SUPER cautious and make sure the bike can't get away.

None of these bikes are made to run wide open throttle on the stand. Engine is made to run with a load on it .....you're asking for trouble in long run if you do this.

You don't do it for the long run, you do it for a second and go aha OK.
Loud sport bikes rev bombing cars in lieu if the horn regularly, maybe...

Yeah that is the rev limiter kicking in. That is the typical top speed for a stock 2013 model.

Simple mods like an aftermarket variator fixes that.

Can you explain more about the variator? Where from and how much is it?

Any negatives and what else needs to be changed?

Use the 13 gram rollers, I didn't care for the 12gm's as much. You should see better performance as things wear. My videos document the success of this kit and combination of rollers. I have the links to the websites and prices if you need. And yes that kit will work on the 150's just the same. Note you will go faster on stock tires.
