Patiently Awaiting my 16.5" NC Windscreen

Post by Denny »

My NC extra tall screen is due to arrive by end of the day today. My 14.75" SC screen works fine at getting the wind off my chest and onto my upper helmet. The reason I ordered the taller screen was because of the noise I get sitting at my natural riding position. When I duck approximately 2" the wind noise drops significantly. Being used to my old scooter's windscreen and low noise level, I knew I had an option to buy the largest size to correct the problem. I'm only 5'6" so I suppose one of the few advantages of being short is that they have windscreens tall enough for me to ride under the wind. For most of you it's inevitable to have the wind flow at your helmet. But I'll post some pics of the differences between the two sizes and of me sitting behind the screens.

I just got my screen. It looks beautiful, but it’s too late and getting dark to install it today and take quality pics. I plan on taking before (14.75” screen), and after installing (16.5” screen) pics tomorrow.

Somehow I f’d up and reordered the 14.75” screen. So the first pic from my second post was of the 14.75” screen. So I returned it and just got the 16.5” and installed it yesterday. It’s only 1.75” taller, but it’s noticeably quieter. For me, I already knew I was gonna install a windscreen, so I should’ve just gotten the largest size at the beginning. Oh well, I’m very happy with it.

Hi, is it possible to get another photo of the whole scoot with it?

Am i right that the Givi D1130ST is 21 inches tall?

If NC is 16 inches tall this could be the right height I'm looking for.

I plan on posting a couple more before and after pics of the 14” and 16” screens soon. The ones I took I wasn’t able to size it down correctly. I’m still figuring the pic pixel sizing stuff out.

The first pic is with me behind the 14.75” screen (before).
The second pic is with me behind the 16.5” screen (after).
It’s really hard to tell the difference in height from the pics. I tried sitting with my natural riding position in both pics. But as you can see in the prior pics, it’s pretty accurate of being only 1.75” difference between the two.

Thank you for the photos. How about the wind noise of the new screen?

If youre still getting noise at 14.75", me getting the one pictured below might not be a good idea since it still looks shorter than your windshield.

The pic in the brown shirt is with the 14.75, the pic with my Seahawks shirt was with the 16.5” screen.
So I’m 5’6” (longer in the legs) and I had significant wind noise with the shorter screen. I have no experience with the design and aerodynamics of the screen in your pic. But based on the heights of these two screens, I suspect it would be at least as loud as the shorter one (depending on your height). Like another response in another post said something like: “any screen is better than no screen at all”. I bought my PCX and prior scooter primary for my commute to work. So being that it’s so cold and rainy here, that quote is very true for me.

My wife and I have the tallest GIVI screens on ours. We tried the medium high one but the wind was too much, and she is only 5 ft. tall. With the tallest one she has no wind problem. I am 5 ft. 10 inches and the wind hits some point around my eyes with the tall one. To me that is fine. It gives me a feel for what the wind is like, but it isn't bad enough to try to find another solution. I have a face visor that takes care of the remaining wind.

I struggle other this whole wind thing.

It's not wind it's wind resistance you are feeling, partially at best.

It's teeny on a teeny scooter and there to be enjoyed. Part of riding out in the open air

The NC extra tall screen is 29" from the top to the very bottom. 14.5 from the top down to the top of the shroud on the instrument cluster.

Rather than trying to get a screen that's absolutely perfect for your height, , I think a airfoil deflector would solve the problem. My windshield is almost 3 inches below my face, however the deflector I use at the top catches all the wind and sends it over my helmet. It works perfect. I use a Puig.

I agree with Jge64, an airfoil deflector should be ideal. On my shopping list.

Cool.

Get your shopping list and stick it to the front of your bike.

It might stop "wind" as you travel.
