First look on the Hybrid PCX 2019 Thailand

Post by alx123 »

My first ever glance at a Hybrid PCX 2019 today.

Looks like a typical PCX, nothing fancy except the "Hybrid" badge where the "Prestige" used to be.

Only 1 color available here

I see nothing different except that it has now 2 modes when riding: (1) D mode - for usual riding, saves fuel (2.) S Mode - sports mode, for more aggressive riding. I'm not sure how it works though.

Sadly, hybrid sold in Thai isn't ABS equipped still.

Price: $3169.27 (converted to current USD- THB rate)

I have yet to see review of its fuel efficiency in D mode and performance in S mode. Will give update soon once Ive have more details.

For me, it's not worth upgrading from my current 2016. Not yet.

If I were you I'd keep going with your 2016. Great fuel economy and reliability already. The range and speed are not an issue. :D

A lot of effort is being made in the industry towards electric and hybrids. It's in the news often. But range and speed still remains a challenge.

GM (General Motors) here in the U.S. is surprisingly getting into designing and engineering electric bicycles now and will be selling them initially in Europe.

I can hardly see the point of a hybrid, when a stock 125 will do 135+ mpg or more with a gentle right hand.

At this point it's an engineering exercise, everybody will do be doing it pretty soon. The problem with all the elec motorcycles including the zero, Harley, and a few new ones is you still have a rather limited range (and that's with the fast charger not wall AC, that's glacial )and I can't imagine what the range is in the sport mode, probably around 50.

If I were getting 114 mpg on a 150cc PCX on a 125 mile run, why would I want a hybrid??

I know that it is an engineering thing but who would buy one? Really. Statistically the hybrid would get less mileage between fill ups, it would take longer to top off the batteries than to put gas in it, and it would have less internal storage.

Are we talking about hybrid or electric?

Its a hybrid....

https://global.honda/products/motorshow ... 7/029.html

Again, this is an interim step just to showcase honda engineering. The electric industry is claiming that there won't be any hybrids within 10 years, after it goes full electric with less-than-20 min fast charging from AC110 in your wall, and 300+ mile capacities… They'll be no reason for a hybrid, it really was an interim step in the path to electrification.

If they could get 300 miles between charges for a PCX scooter then it would be a good investment for those of us who love our scooters. We wouldn't be looking for a charger all the time, and we could happily do our daily runs with just the noise of the city. Going to the countryside would be easy to do without worry about recharging.

Of course, there will always be those who would see how far they could go on a charge, and possibly have to get a tow. We have those now, so that won't change.

Some Lithium ion batteries right now have the ability to "jump start" if needed. There's a button on the side that will give you a jumpstart to get a vehicle started if The battery itself is flat.. It's available now on many of the batteries for bikes, antigravity makes one. Once that's in place and you have a "reserve tank", if you run out of juice, it will because you want to.

To clarify, this is the Honda Hybrid PCX 2019 which honda claims to be the first hybrid motorcycle in the world (not sure), and not the electric PCX.

The high power electric motor claims to enhance (motor assist) the PCX's power at all speeds, especially in acceleration (S mode).

The Intelligent PDU (Power Delivery Unit) control box, hybrid operation system Is responsible for directing the lithium-ion battery Power to the electric motor. It allows the electric motor to work together with the engine In increasing the acceleration power.

Honda claims it enhances power and helps save fuel too..

I have to wonder what its total distance on a full tank plus a full charge would be. Also, I wonder what its top end is.

I'm gonna try and find out feedback from owners and post it here, there is not many hybrid pcx roaming around yet so performance reviews are almost non-existent as of the moment.

PCX hybrid has same 8.0L petrol tank capacity. So with 7L usage, a PCX hybrid is claimed to go between 14.7-41.3km farther range than a normal PCX(150).

EDIT: apparently PCX Hybrid uses a 125 ICE, not a 150 as I initially assumed, at least according to the specs sheet on Honda Japan website.

That means only 2.8-8.4 extra range compared to PCX125

The Hybrid released in Thailand is a 150cc engine though.
