Rear tire wear?

I have the service manual & it mentions the tread limit for the tires but doesn't mention where I'm supposed to measure.

I have about 7500 miles on the bike. I have attached pictures of the tire. Hows it looking?

I can see you reached the tire's wear mark in the second pic..

Rear tires usually need to be replaced at around 5,500 miles. Front tires last almost twice that. Your rear tire is way beyond the point where it needs changing. I am betting that it does not hold very well on wet roads.

Surprisingly it seems fine when wet. But thanks! I'll get on getting a new one.

The siping on the sides is good, so it is probably not too bad even in the wet in corners. Stopping's where the issue will happen, because your back wheel will just lock up and you'll be sideways. I'd have gotten that replaced a few thousand miles ago, as alx123 and Mel suggested.

Surprisingly it seems fine when wet. But thanks! I'll get on getting a new one.

I learned the hard way that although it gets flatter and flatter in the middle of the tyre on the outside as it wears, it's still just as round on the inside. Mine had a catastrophic blowout whilst riding - and I was shocked at how thin the rubber had become in the middle.

Luckily I was able to stop the bike safely, but still had to pay for the dealer to take it back to the workshop on a truck. These days I've set myself a hard limit of 5000km for a rear tyre (lesson learned).

For reasons I don't fully understand I get very little front tyre wear - I had it changed yesterday having done 22,000km (it still had enough tread to pass a warrant at around 21,000km).

Not sure what country your in, but in the UK for example, the yearly compulsory MOT test 3yr's past registration has clear guidlines about tread depth: 'The legal limit of tyre tread depth in the UK for motorcycles over 50cc is 1mm across ¾ of the width of the tread pattern and with visible tread on the remaining ¼' all around the tyre so any bald patches or less than 1mm depth on most of it is a fail.

Other countries such as the US do not seem to care - no statutory testing of how fit the bike is to be on the road (or so it's been mentioned).

I had my rear IRC changed at 13,500 as it was getting close to the limit, now on a MCG rear and it looks great at 22,000 miles. Still on the original front IRC which has more than 1mm anywhere on it remaining - that's 22,000 miles later! People must constantly do full throttle starts, hard breaking or such to wear tyres so quickly.

I commute 18 miles there and back to work 15 days of the month, and max out 40-45mph but often doing 30 or less in londons congested roads.

My front tire still has enough thread depth at 30,000 kms of use but I noticed that the rubber is a little harder now after about 2.5 years so I decided to change it.

These pilotstreets seems to last forever.

I always feel bad throwing away a still good rubber though.

Could it be that the frequently wet roads..... across the pond.... have something to do with your longer lasting tires??

Nothing to do with rain.
I used to get through a PCX oem IRC rear in around 5000 miles.
Its about how fast you ride and what you weigh.

Summer is scorching 100 deg F here in SEA, though I usually ride to work during early mornings and home bound late afternoons.

GN2 is right, I weigh less and runs just around max of 50-55 mph at most.

My 15 Forza tire lasted 4400 miles
My 16 PCX 150 lasted 4500 miles. Rear tire 7000 approaching red on wear indicator
I am 250 lbs mostly country crushed gravel driving.

I drive 99% WOT. Everything around me is pretty much 55mph limit. Weigh about 200lb.

Kinda off topic compared to the original reason for the thread but i had another question. I've been reading everywhere constantly that the 2013 model was supposedly the fastest of all the year models.

I've never been able to get the bike past 62 mph even when new. As of right now WOT on flats I usually only get about 59 to 60 mph. Only way I can get over that is by going downhill. I also seem to be having a hesitation between 35 and 40 miles per hour. This can't be because of the drive belt can it? They are supposed to go 10 to 15,000 miles before needing replaced.

Of course it is the factory belt. About 8 years old at this point... Lol

Basically I'm just seeing that i definitely don't get the speed that alot of people say the 2013 can get.
