Turn key to On… nothing happens | Forza 300 2015

Post by elipal »

All the important info down below.

Hi everyone. Hope you are having a good day!

Quick summary - Key turned to On… Nothing. No sound. No lights. Absolutely nothing happens when I turn the key to on.

I had one of my bulbs die last week.

I replaced the bulb with a H4 60Watt (I was unaware the required wattage is 30Watts)

2 days later my second bulb goes, I jump to Halfords and grab another “200% brighter H4 60Watt bulb (still unaware of the 30Watt requirement.)

I replace the second bulb (Thanks guys for the previous forum on how to do that!)

Okay so both lights working, I set out for the day. Upon reaching a temporary red light(road works red light) I press the “Pass” button on the left hand side(UK only, this activates full beam)

Once the “Pass” button was pressed both headlights cut out :( (it was dark and had to ride home dangerously)

So now I’m back home checking the fuses, the Hi/Lo 10 AMP had been fried. Thankfully there was a spare 10 AMP fuse within the fuse box :D

Put the fresh fuse in, headlights back on! Woo!

It was late so tomorrow I was going to Halfords(shop) to get new bulbs that are the correct wattage.

Was driving my bike for about 30 minutes no problem and then I seen the bike cut out for a second (all dials reset/dashboard reset) then it happened 5 minutes later, then again.

By this point the ABS light is flashing and the dashboard is resetting every 10 seconds.

1 minute later the bike cuts out completely. (Pretty worries at this point)

Pull over to side. Start bike again.

Pulling away. Bike runs fine, steady revs etc etc.

As soon as I pressed the left brake the dashboard reset and the ABS started flashing again.

Okay - Thankfully by this point I’m 2 minutes from home. I’m able to drive home.

I park up, side stand on. Keys off.
Open right side(access to fuse box)
Check the ABS fuse - Okay
Check the main relay fuse - Okay

So i put the fuses back. Pop the cover on.
Turn the key to On…

Nothing. No sound. No lights. Absolutely nothing happens when I turn the key to on.

I don’t think the battery is completely dead because surely the dashboard lights would activate upon turning the key to On?

I may be wrong here. New to the self repair game however I’m eager to learn anything and maintain every aspect of my bike myself!

Before more damage is done to electrical system, please stop replacing blown fuses and find out what's causing the overload/short.
When there's a sudden malfunction after a repair or modification, we probably did something wrong or installed an improper part.
If it worked before the "repairs" and it doesn't afterwards... I did something wrong.
The higher wattage headlamps could have overheated the socket or wiring and melted the insulation. Or wires could be pinched and shorting out.
The battery may or not be weak and dying, but until the scoot's electrical problems are sorted, it's a moot point.
"Nothing at All" usually means a main fuse is blown.

Hi guys. Back with an update for those who may have the same issue. READ EVERYTHING.

It turns out the “positive” (red) screw on my battery had come loose. This alongside having the incorrect wattage blew my 15amp fuse I’m sure!

Upon tightening both screws the dashboard lights still didn’t turn on.

I opened up both fuse boxes, unplugged each fuse and then reinserted again.
A tedious process to say the least (I dropped one of the fuses as it was tight to pull) BE CAREFUL as I lost one of my fuses within the housing below.

Once I reinserted all fuses… BINGO the bike turned on!

I believe the issue was a combination of:
• Incorrect wattage of headlight bulbs
• Loose screw connection on the battery
• Blown 15amp fuse

I hope this is able to help someone in the future!
