I picked up the package today from the post office... It looked rough:
I didn't have to open the box, it was torn open already. It was REALLY beat up, the chrome was chipping through in some places, and a few pieces were missing.
Random hole in the cover...
Close-up...
At this point, I've given up on the vendor, shipping, and Thailand in general. I've been at this for more than a month, and am just out of patience. I think I can make this one work, but I'll have to repaint it and have it reupholstered or repaired or something...
As usual with anything from there, this came with no instructions and really didn't make much sense in how it fits on.
I went ahead and mocked the rack up:
The problem is, the metal substructure under the rear wing won't fit on right with the rack in place where it is supposed to mount:
This weird-ass support bar is in the way:
But, the support bar partially functions like the metal substructure, and allows me to mount everything in place:
But, the plastic trim isn't clipped in place, is unsupported, and would very easily break. I think this is the way I'm supposed to do it, but I think it also looks like shit from behind, since you can see all the clips and such. In addition, water would easily intrude, and get all sorts of things wet that aren't supposed to get wet.
I figured I could salvage the part by chopping the support bar, perhaps that would give it enough room. I grabbed the angle grinder and started chopping:
The welds were REALLY strong... What this thing lacks in build quality and finish, it makes up for in brute strength. The whole rack is way heavier than it needs to be. Even still, I got through:
But the welds were still there, and the edges were NASTY:
I smoothed them out:
Now it was closer to fitting, but I also needed to grind down the metal support on the rear wing to make sure the plastics all line up. I lined them up:
Marked the cuts:
And ground them out. The picture below is about halfway done:
And then I put it all together for the end result. Pardon the shitty quality, it got dark on me:
