so i've been using an aerostich 45w heated jacket on my PCX but it just didnt push enough heat. so i bought a Warm and Safe Gen 4 90 watt jacket for use on my big touring bike primarily. last night i tried it on the PCX with a voltmeter to make sure it wasnt stressing the system too much.
based on my research the PCX alternator makes 309 watts at peak. how much to run the lights fuel pump, etc? and how much we have to play with is the big question?
basically at idle it wasnt making enough, but with just a little throttle over idle well within what the brake holds it was making enough power and seemed to not mind running my 90watt jacket at speed on full power. i did turn it off at stop lights.
I'd only put that high of a load on it if I had a kickstarter. Since the bike needs to charge the battery from starting (which takes a lot of power), you might run the battery out if you take a lot of little trips.
I know the headlights take a whole lot of amperage... Proceed with caution...

yeah, this is not for around town riding. this is for fast road distance commuting. i only turn it on when i am running pretty fast. the voltmeter is showing between 13.4-14 volts at speed with it on high. my understanding is that if it starts to show less than 12.8 you are running a deficit and decharging the battery as well as stressing the electrical system components. the alternator is quit powerful for a 125cc at 309w, btw!

I have been wanting a heated jacket, and pants for riding in colder weather one day... On a PCX 150, you could have 200 watts of heated clothing if you were not stopped and idling a lot. LED headlights, fuel pump, etc. take less than 100 watts total.
I run 150 watts of extra lighting on my SH150i with no problem at all.
