Honor a Veteran...

Post by homie »

Shake a soldiers hand, tell them their service is commendable and absolutely appreciated. Even if you hate war and violence as you should, we all can see what the lack of military might from the US results in very quickly. Some other country will have to do what we do best until the next administration is in place... God help them get it done because we are kind of strapped for capital right now.

Since I am a vet, do I shake my own hand? :-) I just had to say that. On a more serious note, I am seeing a bad trend when it comes to vets and our government and it upsets me. With all that we have given for our country you would expect our government to be thankful, but what I am seeing is less care for vets, a Veterans Administration that is finding more and more ways to do less and less for those who keep them safe, and more and more homeless vets. If this trend continues our armed forces may find themselves short handed as less and less young people find it appealing to be shot at, knowing that they will be on their own if they get injured while protecting our country. It is already difficult to get help. Who will help those who can no longer help themselves?

From a fellow vet, here's a virtual handshake.

Regarding the VA, that department has a lot of internal issues. However, a major external issue is insufficient funding -- and that issue lies with Congress. Plenty of money for new weapons, some of which even the military does not want, but not nearly enough to care for those who have served.

My puppy is patriotic (see pic) but doesn't like vets--the kind with shots, that is.
